Travis County Commissioners Court

December 23, 2008
Item 15

Number 15 is consider and take appropriate action on waiver of retro activity allowing Travis County to acquire the barkley tract in advance of a grant application submission to the Texas parks and wildlife department.
can you just explain to me what this one does?

>> yes, sir.
melinda with transportation and natural resources.
this is parks and wildlife mechanism that allows us to close on a tract of land that we're buying and still include tonight a grant application in the future.
we don't have a particular grant application in mind or in the works, but it does seem like something that would lend itself to a parks project.

>> so I guess I'm trying to understand what the waiver is about.

>> if we were not to get a waiver, then we could not include it in the future grant application.

>> so we're anticipating --

>> we're anticipating use of grant --

>> yes.
and if we use the grant, we couldn't use the grant if we didn't have that waiver.
usually with a grant you couldn't purchase the item before they are in the process of grant approval.

>> this is fairly routine.
not nearly as complicated as I'm reading into it.

>> yes, sir.

>> move approval.

>> second.

>> discussion?
thank you all.
all in favor?
that passes by unanimous vote.
