Citizens Communication
First item is citizens communication. This item gives residents an opportunity to address the Commissioners court on any matter not on the agenda for up to three minutes. And one citizen has signed in, gus pena.
>> I come to honor and identify the issues and plights of the veterans. First and foremost, I would like to tell the people that I served proudly in the united states marine corps for six years. For veterans, deceased and alive, lord, we lift up the veterans and loved ones left behind who have answered the call of duty and we live in freedom today because of the sacrifice our veterans have made. We thank you for letting us live in this land where only love you family takes precedence over love of country. Bless us and bless our land that we may always may be the land of the free and the home of the brave in jesus' name, amen. May all our deceased veterans past rest in peace and thank you for your service and thank your family for allowing our country to benefit from your service. Six of highway brothers are military veterans. Three marine corps and air force veterans. Monday, November 10, 2008, will be the birthday of the united states marine corps. The united states marine corps was born November 10, 1775, we are 233 years old. The only, the only military branch of service that celebrates its birth day. The proud are known throughout service throughout the country and world. November 11th is veterans day, 2008. Sad for me because I don't have my friends with me who served in vietnam. Booker t. Loston, united states army, toby rodriguez one of my best friends at johnston high school. Alex, my adopted brother, a classmate. The last infantryman to die in vietnam. I miss them all. Wiley guerra also who toby rodriguez's mom, she married wiley's lad. May he rest in peace. Veterans need jobs, job training, affordable housing, mental health treatment, ptsd treatment and counseling, transitional housing for veterans, veterans with families. Do not judge or criticize or mistreat a homeless individual or homeless veteran. You don't know how they got there. It could be by circumstantial issues but do not judge them. I don't believe there is a veteran who has asked for a handout, rather a hand up. The h.u.d. Bash, the veterans assistive housing program that came about from various individuals, james webb, congressman al green of houston, democrat, has a lot of problems, not even filtering to tract, judge. You and I spoke with these issues. The program is under investigation by the inspector general. Various congressional hearings that are led -- I'll wrap up. Led by senator james webb of virginia, former secretary of navy, and I believe we're going to have something done to get the veterans house the homeless. This is a picture of alex, an old up in the year after alex died, the first one to die, lieutenant rodney willpansy. God bless america, god bless our veterans and support the veterans issues.
