19. Consider and take appropriate action on issues related to the conduct of the November 4, 2008 joint general and special elections. That one is more general than the other items.

>> yes, sir, if you wouldn't mind. Dana debeauvoir, Travis County district clerk. We are almost fully recruited for the people to run early election and election day force for the election. We are not quite there yet. I need about 300 people. I need them pretty quick. If you can call the office of the county clerk, 854-4996. Call us, we have paying jobs starting at about $10 an hour. You are going to love working this election, call me.

>> most of these jobs election day?

>> yes, they are.

>> but you have to do some training.

>> a little bit of training. Other jobs, too, for example helping the judges over the weekend get ready for the Tuesday leak. We work the weekend before.

>> not helping the county judge, but helping the election judge.

>> right. They will come help you, too.

>> 300.

>> 300 people.

>> I would really like about 100 people who feel very comfortable with a laptop. I would like 100 people who are comfortable with bilingual english-spanish. Another 100 people who just like being around people.

>> may I at that time day off?

>> [laughter] may I take the day off?

>> which one do you like?

>> the bilingual.

>> we are almost there with our goal.

>> okay.

>> that is on -- election is on Tuesday. So I do think we should plan to have a limited agenda. We can discuss this without posting it, because it's a schedule. But I think we ought to plan to have a limited agenda on November 4th from -- from 30 to -- 30 minutes to an hour. We can get our work done, right.

>> I think that would be good.

>> give us the number to call.

>> 854-4996. Call the county clerk.

>> tell us how many hours somebody would have to commit to training if.

>> you know, we can really -- it depends on what you are doing. We can coordinate with your schedule. It could take just a couple of hours, maybe 30 minutes. You might need to attend the introductory four hour class. Call us, we can figure it out.

>> they get paid to train even.

>> paid for training, paid for working, starting at $10. Depending on what job you work, 10, 11 or $12 an hour.

>> tell us the range because last election cycle I trained took 30 minutes. What I did took two hours. You can volunteer for four hours or volunteer for 40.

>> good point, Commissioner. You really can. Most people think of election day as 7:00 a.m. To 7:00 p.m. We really have a lot more flexibility than that. 12 days of early voting plus the weekend before election day when we get ready and then we have election day and don't forget election night. So there are lots of different opportunities to come and help.

>> okay.

>> and if you are 16 years old and would like to see this election from the inside out, you can also come and work the election and we will welcome you and teach you, show you what it looks like.

>> you can teach us how to use a lot of stuff that we're too old to know how to use.

>> okay.

>> anything else on 19?

>> not under 19, sir.

>> okay. We will see if we can help.

>> thank you.

>> advised to contact the county clerk, assist with the election.
