Travis County Commissioners Court

Item A2

A-2, consider and take appropriate action to hire the intergovernmental coordinator.
Commissioner eckhardt and I have worked with three executive managers to look at a list of probably 25 of the top applicants.
we reduced that list down to 13 or 14.
the three executive managers have decided to interview all of those individuals and try to rank them for the Commissioners court and give us a short list to interview.
the reason I think it's important for the court to approve this process is that if they interview three -- 14 people, three of them, excluding the members of the Commissioners court because we would participate in interviews later on, then I think that what we ought to do is just agree to interview the short listed ones.
sometimes in the past we have given individual members of the court an opportunity to add an applicant.
I am not sure that we ought to follow this practice this time especially if we interview 13 or 14 individuals.
so I'm asking the court really to sign off on that process.

>> that's fine.

>> of the 14, I think we've got a total of about 100.
hrmd short listed down to 24, 25, from which we short listed 13 or 14.
they will be ranked.
all interviewed by the three nonCommissioners court members of this selection committee and a Commissioners court then interview a further short-listed set.
our goal should be how many?
five or six?

>> three.

>> five.

>> three.

>> I hear three, I hear five.

>> four.

>> let's say four or five.
how they shake out after interviews, looked at applications, resumes and the interviews, it ought to give a pretty good feel if two or heads and shoulders above the others or four or five.
if we look at that number with a caveat that if a smaller number really appear to be head and showers and thunderstorms above the others, then just recommend those for interview by the Commissioners court.
how is that?
that's kind of subjective, but if you go through the process of interviewing all of them, I think you've given them a fair opportunity to compete.
with that I move approval of a number of four or five to be interviewed, that we approve the process and agreed that the court will interview the further short-listed subset of the 14 remaining applicants.

>> second.

>> discussion?
all in favor say aye?
that passes by unanimous vote.
