>> roger, let's take up our budget related items here, then we'll go to the requests from family connections. 25, consider and take appropriate action on various issues related to the fiscal year 2009 budget process, including a, remaining schedule in September for public hearings, advertisements, markup, and final adoption of fiscal year 2009 county budget. B, statutorily required newspaper advertisement for public hearings on proposed fiscal year 2009 tax rate. C, other advertisements necessary to complete the fiscal year 2009 budget process. And d, other related issues.

>> good afternoon, judge, Commissioners. We'll let jessica touch base on the calendar and the advertisements, but I did want to make one clarification from a statement that I did make last week regarding the advertisements. Once you land on a tax rate, I stated that you couldn't go above that, but you could go below it. That was incorrect. I went back and double-checked. Once you land on it, that is the tax rate once it's posted in the paper that you ultimately have to land on. So I just wanted to make that clarification.

>> so the rate that we adopt on September 4th and advertise is the rate for '09?

>> yes, sir. And my apologies for the incorrect statement there.

>> you do have in your backup a proposed schedule that we would like to follow for the remaining of the budget process. That schedule is virtually identical to the schedule that was in the fy '09 budget manuel. However, there's some key dits that I would like to point you to if that's all right. Markup begins on the third and ends on the fistth and we've discussed there's a key date on the fourth that we would recommend a tax rate, a proposed tax rate be set by noon so that we can obviously do the calculations if it's different from the one in the preliminary budget, and be able to advertise appropriately. We have some deadlines that we need to meet to be able to do that. There will be an ad appearing in the "austin american-statesman" on the eighth. And then a chronicle ad on the budget -- a public hearing on the proposed fy '09 budget on the 11th. That previously was set for the 4th, however we thought it would be more appropriate on the 11th because then it would include appropriate correct information given any vote that's taken on the fowrtz. There's also some ads showing up on the 17th and the 20th. You will have some public hearings set for the 16th. That's what these advertisements are for is to set the public hearings and let the public know that they're welcome to come down and comment. The 16th and the 19th are two public hearings. They also you have public hearing on the proposed budget on the 23rd. We've also attached the draft ads for your consideration. Most of the language in these ads is required by law. There is very little that is not required by law on that first part at least, the notice of public hearing on tax increase, the first paragraph of what we use the taxes for. And the footnote just as an explanation. And obviously what we would like is for these ads to be ea proved by you in thish draft form, knowing that the numbers could change once that proposed tax rate is set by noon on Thursday the 4th. And I'll be happy to answer any questions. There's obviously two other az that are attached, one on the proposed fy '09 budget and one on the notice of tax revenue increase as well.

>> questions? Move approval.

>> second.

>> discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.

>> thank you.

>> thank y'all for your patience.

>> 28, we did receive a request from mr. Rhodes to take another week on that one. We'll postpone it one week. 28 is a matter involving the planning for the new building and parking garage on airport boulevard, north campus. Are you here on that item or 33?

>>

>> [inaudible - no mic].

>> alicia did contact my staff to contact alicia over lunch to make sure she was all right with it. And I think my staff left word that unless I was notified otherwise, I would assume it was all right. The backup got out kind of late Friday, and as of -- sorry to make y'all run down here, but we need two of you on item 33, don't we? On 28 we'll have it back on next week.
