Citizens Communication

View captioned video.

Citizens communication is designed to give residents an opportunity to address the Commissioners court on any matter not on the agenda. And mr. Gus pena has signed in.

>> thank you, judge. Good morning judge. Commissioners, gus pena. As mr. Jimmy castro is always wont, I am not here on my own behalf, but on issues the community asked me to bring up. Number one I want to thank you, Commissioner Gerald Daugherty, for your comments on transportation on the radio is well thought out, well prepared and well received because we got a lot of good education out of those comments and it makes us better taxpayers and hold the different entities accountable for spending our tax dollars. Number one, you know school is going to start in August, the second week in August. Shots for tots and for our youth, a telephone number, 972-5522 to receive immunizations. They are required by law. Although you can get a waiver from the state of Texas if certain circumstances, but it's very important to get your students immunized. It is the law. It's healthy and prevents illness. Another issue that I'm going to speak about is very near and dear to me is blood pressure screenings starting actually thereof -- today through July 31st at different cvs locations. And a telephone number is 866-389-2727. Blood pressure is one of the diseases that causes heart attacks, stroke and death. And we need to get -- this is free of charge. Call them for immunizations, 972-5520 and also blood pressure screening. Judge and Commissioners, in front of you I gave you an item from the city council meeting of last Thursday, rca recommendation for council action. In it is allocating $282,000 for a contract to provide not only another employee to find housing for homeless families, but this does not go to direct services. What it does -- all it does is creates a new employee tier. We need fund fog direct services for the homeless family themselves. I would ask you to read this please and dissect it and analyze it. And I also counseled the city council for not have direct service fund fog the homeless families. This is good to have an employee to look for affordable housing, but doesn't do the families any good. They already have employees for that at caritas. It's just recreating the wheel, reinventing the wheel. I would like to ask y'all also to think about the budget over here. I know we're going to be taking a big hit, like I told the city council, but be prudent. I appreciate the hard work that you do. We need more corrections officers. I know patrol officers are a priority. That is in its self a needful position. Let get these kids vaccinated, also the blood pressure screening. Also people will be asking you help for school supplies. Please help them out because sometimes the entities that are getting school supplies do not help everybody. Anyway, thank you very much for your time.

>> anybody else for citizens communication?

>> judge, I don't know whether anne ha hawkins is in the building and she can hear this. I think that she wanted to speak at citizens communication. If not, she will be able to speak on item 19 because it does pertain to that.

>> okay.

>> nope.
