Travis County Commissioners Court
July 1, 2008
Item 3
3. Consider and take appropriate action on an order prohibiting outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> good morning, beecham from the Travis County fire marshal's office. Baldwin called in on another matter. Even though we did receive very beneficial rains, they were spotty, they didn't get a lot of portions of Travis County. Our kbdi is presently just over 600, as of close of business last night. Therefore staff would recommend that we take no action of the court rather take no action on the outdoor burning ban, leaving it in place. With the -- with the -- judge, would the courted like any updates on the opening of fireworks stand today or --
>> if there is one that would be good.
>> yes, sir.
>> okay. The Texas, pyrotechnics association did what they said they would do, the stands are opening today. Continuation of the restricted devices are -- ispoke to some of the purveyors, sticks, fins are no in play. The satellites, bees, helicopters and we would certainly urge the good citizens of Travis County to use fireworks in a safe and sane manner in a legal way in a legal place because quite frankly most of the fires that occur, occur when people choose to use fireworks in an appropriate way.
>> okay. Thank you very much. We will have it back on next week just in case we need it.
>> thank you.
>> thank you, also in celebration of the fourth of July, I would quote governor around schwarzenneger saying I can't stop you from buying fireworks, please don't play with fireworks this fourth of July.
>> he was hilarious.
>> really, they are dangerous fourth of July is a wonderful celebration but it would be a tragedy for it to end in a wildfire.
