Item a 2 is approval of a proclamation designating the month of may, 2008 as hispanic cultural awareness month in Travis County and recognizing the 22nd annual cinco de mayo celebration in Travis County and the 13th annual combined city, county cinco de mayo celebration. And to receive this is virginia -- medesma from h.r. I know that virginia aleman has been working with several people throughout the county, but I imagine they have to stay at the office and work.

>> oh, okay. Well whereas 2008 marks the 146th anniversary of the battle of puebla, led by general zaragosa from goliad, Texas, successfully defended themselves against french troops. Whereas 22 years ago Travis County began hosting a cinco de mayo celebration in order to keep alive the spirit of community that is signified by the battle of puebla and to recognize the men and women who fought as well as those who still work to ensure our freedom and whereas this year's event marks the 13th annual combined city of Austin and Travis County celebration and is sponsored by many elected and appointed officials and department heads along with the downtown Austin alliance and, by the way, city department heads. And elected officials. Whereas Travis County will celebrate cinco de mayo at wooldridge park from 11:00 a.m. To 2:00 p.m. On Friday, may 2nd, featuring a mariachi and tpoubglorico dancers and plenty of food booths and refreshments. Therefore be it proclaimed that the Travis County Commissioners court does hereby recognize the 146th anniversary of sing saeupbgd encourages -- of cinco de mayo and encourages all citizens to participate in Friday's activities. We further designate may as hispanic cultural awareness month in Travis County, Texas and encourage all citizens to participate in this month-long celebration of hispanic culture. And I would move approval.

>> I wanted to thank the committee, even though they are not able to be here. But it took a lot of people to get this together and I would like to thank the departments who are letting the -- letting the employees participate and there will be plenty of food. Different food booths and entertainment. And as the Commissioner said, there will be mariachis and ballet folklorico. We would like to encourage everyone to caught and enjoy the fun, taste the good foods out there. We have a variety of different foods from hot dogs to taco plates. We would like to encourage everyone to come out during that time. Again I would like to thank everyone, the committee, department heads and the employees who are also helping to put this event together. And hopefully we will have a successful day. It looks like weather-wise it's going to be nice. So please come out and join us.

>> the majority of them going to -- yes, the majority of them are going to charities, some of them are even for scholarships funds.
