Travis County Commissioners Court
March 18, 2008
Item 1
1. Consider and take appropriate action on an order prohibiting outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County.
>> good morning, pete baldwin, Travis County emergency management coordinator. Unfortunately they have -- they have -- they have revised their forecast, we're not going to get that inch to two inches of rain that we thought we were. However we are going to see a light to moderate rain for the remainder of the day. And we finally got our model back online looking at our kbei, it's at 461, which is well below our benchmark of 500. I met with all of the chiefs yesterday in the capital area fire chiefs association meeting and we discussed the -- the possibility of lifting burn ban. We did not get any objection to that. And so I come to you today with the recommendation that we do lift the outdoor burning ban for Travis County. I don't suspect that we will have it lifted for -- for a great long period of time. We will probably be back to you within the next three to four weeks, if not a little bit sooner, depending on the amount of moisture that we get, simply because we are in a la nina year where -- where moderate to -- to slight drought is what they categorized us as. So with that being said, I have a couple of orders in my packet here that I will be glad to drop off to the judge's office if the court so approves lifting the recommendation -- lifting the outdoor burn ban.
>> questions? Based on staff's recommendation I move that we lift the ban.
>> second.
>> we need to have this back on next week just in case --
>> it would be helpful if we have an item just in case.
>> okay. Discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Since we have both of you all here
