Item 5
>> number 5 introduction of roger jefferies, executive manager of justice and public safety, to the Commissioners court and Travis County.
>> I知 danny hobby, the executive manager of emergency services. I致e had the pleasure of working with some of the staff over the last few months since we moved together. Today I知 going to turn it over to carol coleburn, it's our pleasure to introduce to you the new executive manager of justice and public safety. If you would.
>> I知 carol coleburn. I知 extremely happy today to be here to officially introduce to the court as well as the tctv audience the new justice in public safety executive manager, mr. Roger jeffreys. Mr. Jeffreys is going to be managing four Travis County departments, of which the department heads are up here. We have cameron johnson and he's the mental health public defender. We have next to him jeanette kinnard -- I知 sorry, I知 sorry. Excuse me. He is the juvenile public defender. Next to him jeanette who is the mental health public defender or director of that office. And mr. Jeffreys himself the department head of the criminal justice planning department, but we do have the majority of the staff back here to salute mr. Jeffreys as well as myself with counseling and education services. Mr. Jefferies will also be spending a lot of time managing various criminal justice initiatives as well. I know that he would like everybody to know that he has returned to Texas. He was in the state of new york worked as the d Commissioner for the criminal justice for the state of new york where he managed the office of strategic planning. There he led a state-wide on offender reentry, developing and implementing programs to reduce recidivism. He also directed the development of grand programs targeting juvenile crime reduction, prisoner reentry and violence against women. Prior to that, mr. Jefferies was the department Commissioner for the new york city jails. In that position he managed administration of inmate programs and services and including substance abuse treatment and the establishment of a performance measurement system for interagency initiatives. I could continue on about all of his skills and leadership, his broad knowledge of criminal justice, with you I know that you all would like to hear from mr. Jefferies himself, so I知 going to turn it over to him.
>> carol you do know that new york is the northeast, not the northwest.
>> I知 sorry. I知 just so excited.
>> unless they moved it over.
>> [laughter] always trying to move it over.
>> I do have northeast written down here.
>> first of all, I just want to say how glad I am to be back in the state of Texas. Very true. Especially here in Travis County. I知 extremely honored and excited to be selected to serve as executive manager of justice and public safety for Travis County. It's a -- it's a real honor for me. I want to thank judge Biscoe and the Commissioners and Travis County for entrusting me with this role. You know, even from all the way up there in the northwest, northeast, in new york, we look to Travis County as an example of -- of local government that -- that implemented innovative and smart criminal justice policies and programs. So I have been watching you for a while and I -- I知 really anticipating and looking forward to being part of that continuing legacy. I look forward to working with carol and counseling and education services. I look forward to working with the juvenile public defenders, mental health public defenders office and the staff with the criminal justice planning department. Thank you for coming out and supporting me, all of the partners and individuals and organizations in Travis County that work so hard to keep Travis County safe. I again thank you very much for this honor and I look forward to a long and productive tenure. Thank you.
>> thank you.
>> welcome.

>> looking forward to working with you.
>> dan is so relieved.
