Travis County Commissioners Court
November 6, 2007
Item 18
18 is consider and take appropriate action on search for a new executive manager planning and budget including the following: a, order exempting the purchase of professional executive search firm services from the competitive procurement process pursuant to section 262.02 a 4. County purchasing act. We said we would do this last week and do informal competition, but exempt the formal. Move approval.
>> second.
>> discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. We put b on in case we needed it. Other recruiting strategy recommendations just in case we have something that we didn't say last week. I don't know of anything.
>> judge, let me just say out loud, I know that there is some opinion that there's some people that -- if they are smaller -- I haven't talked to christian about this. I know when we first talked that we, you know, wanted to openly -- or not openly, but I think the comment was made that a larger firm might be the place where we got the most, you know, out of this. And at first, you know, I thought that that might have been true given the fact that the big guys have multiple locations and probably have the ability to tenacle out, if you will, but I’m not sure we shouldn't at least keep an eye to -- I think we called them smaller boutique kind of operators. Sometimes your smaller boutique operators are, you know, not only do they work harder, you know, they are a little hungrier. I do think that we need to keep the door open, you know, whenever we're looking at these things. I don't know if you have an opinion on that.
>> Commissioner, I thought I was going to get away from the table without having to say anything today. Judge, Commissioners, marvin bryce, assistant purchasing agent. We do have a list of 10 firms that we're going to send the informal r.f.s. To. Five local, five national. I say national, there's some in georgia, dallas, new mexico, illinois. Some of those are in Austin I think are some of the smaller firms, some of the boutique-type firms. We haven't totally put them out of the picture.
