Travis County Commissioners Court
October 30, 2007
Item 28
28 is to consider and take appropriate action on a request to approve schematic design for the criminal justice center and gault remodel project. We'll be right to you, joe. I thought it would an good idea to kind of lay out what's in the schematic. I don't have any problem with it, but for the public and including Travis County employees who may be impact understand one way or the other.
>> good afternoon, judge, Commissioners. On August eighth, 2007, the Commissioners court approved the concept of the plan and space location for nine different locations. Today we're here back to show you the space layout as we designed t it's called the schematic design. This is for the cjc first floor and the third floor. And the gault first floor and second floor. Nine different departments are affected in this scenario. It's a division within a department. The district attorney record division, cscd intake division, pretrial services, criminal court administration, district attorney white-collar crime units, tax office collection division, district clerk, Travis County sheriff's office, and the new criminal court, which is going to be on the third floor of the cjc. And we requested a budget of $3,144,000 for all those nine projects to be into one project back in August it was approved. Today I have the project manager here to present to you the schematic design of those spaces.
>> I guess my big question is, have the departments affected by this design seen it and signed off?
>> yes, sir. They've seen all except for the tcso on the first floor of the criminal justice center. In this blue area we've shown it to most of those people. There's so far been no on sition, but we haven't really tied the bow around that one yet, but all the other ones have been seen and approved. We have signoffs on the plans and it's all agreeable to everyone. Except for that one instance.
>> okay. Do we anticipate any kind of issues? For the sheriff's office?
>> I do not.
>> move approval.
>> that was my main question really. The other question I guess is where are you in term of the budget?
>> I think according to pbo we have to discuss the budget on November 1st in the work session because it hasn't been approved yet.
>> and the total cost is how much?
>> $3,144,000. Including $23,000 for the move to come from general fund.
>> what comes from general fund?
>> $23,000 for the move. Always the move fund comes from general fund. The rest of it, pbo recommend that comes from certificate of obligation.
>> I second the motion then. If there's a problem with the sheriff's office, come by and let us know. This is the warrants section, I guess.
>> yes, sir. It's warrants, central warrants, bonding and an area for courthouse security.
>> any other questions or comments from the court?
>> is this our first time hearing about the the three million dollars or have we heard about it before?
>> on August 8th we announced it on August 8th when you approved the space, we said that the cost would be 3,000,144. But when you approve it on August 8th, pbo said the court approved the program, but it's not the funding. So right here we're coming back on November 1st to approve the funding.
>> now, November 1st we have post add discussion of the funding.
>> discussion.
>> don't get your hopes up on November 1st. We'll put it on a Tuesday agenda after our Thursday discussion. Any more discussion of the motion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Thank you very much.
