Travis County Commissioners Court
October 2, 2007
Item 16
Let's call up 16, consider and take appropriate action on a plat for recording in precinct 1, abc pest. If the representatives will come forward, may as well be ready just in case there are questions or you would like to give communities. Good morning.
>> good morning. Joe geiselman and anna bowlin, transportation and natural resources department. This is otherwise a fairly straightforward subdivision. It has met our county regulations for subdivisions. We were asked to notify the adjoining neighborhoods because it's a non-residential development, which is kind of an extra notice and not required by our guidelines, but the applicant has done so. And we've also noticed the fire marshal and the emergency service district. To date we have received no comments from that notice and that is why it's on the -- well, it's on the court's agenda because it meets our county regulations. And it relates somewhat to another agenda item where the court will consider officially adopting such a regulation for future non-residential development in Travis County.
>> okay. So staff's recommendation is to approve it because it meets the county --
>> well, we're recommending it because it does meet our regulations, the county's regulations.
>> questions from the court?
>> if we do something on this chapter 82, this would not preclude you all from still continuing to recommend this?
>> no, that's -- I mean what -- we're going with current regulations, and current regulations, it does meet our standards.
>> right. Okay.
>> any questions? Questions, comments?
>>
>> [inaudible].
>> I would love to. What we're building here -- bobby jenkins with abc lawn and pest services. We're a local business, been in Austin since 1972, and we have a pest control and a lawn care part of our business that will be located there along with a handy man. As far as storage of pesticides, we are a company that -- we have a distributor that delivers to our facility about twice a week so. The amount of materials that we carry on site is probably less than what you will find at home depot or h.e.b. Secondarily the thing that has changed in my industry is that most of our products are in less than one gallon containers. The days of 55-gallon drums of pesticides are long gone. The days of chlorinated highway droa carbons and those materials are long gone. We use materials that are reduced impact type of products. Most of our materials are baits and come in small packaging. From the standpoint of the type of products we carry on site it's mostly individual containers. We've never had a spill on site. If that occurs, we have procedures and products that are designed to taken the spill. It's a material that turns liquid into a solid so they can be scooped up and can be contained and disposed of properly. We've got quite a few trucks, but the majority of our trucks are housed at our technician's homes at night. They take their truck from their last stop to their home. So what's on site are some spare trucks that will be there on an overnight basis. From the standpoint of what we have on site, it's really a lot less because our distributor carries most of the product and they are here in the middle of town. And so we don't have a lot of -- too much storage capability within this facility.
>> okay. We appreciate it.
>> thank you.
>> we'll have it back on next week.
>> thank you. Appreciate it.
>> we'll have it near the top of the agenda so we can take it up early.
>> thank you.
