Travis County Commissioners Court
August 28, 2007
Item 13
>> 13 is to receive update regarding federal emergency management administration, fema, rule change in insurance requirements for local governments and take appropriate action.
>> judge, Commissioners. A couple of weeks ago fema came out with a rule change that affected public entities and their deductibles, but just recently -- as a matter of fact, in last weekend they rescinded that rule, so the change won't take place. Things will stay as they have been.
>> what I was alarmed about has been withdrawn.
>> yes.
>> since we have fema here and floods out west, the other good news from fema, which we received yesterday, is that the deadline to request assistance from damage from the flooding has been extended to October 14th, I think. It was a date in late August, and so if you are a victim of flood damage as a result of the recent floods here in Travis County, then your new deadline is October -- is in October. And that's part of citizens communication next week and we will make sure we have that exact date. And remember, do not self-exclude or self-deny or self-disqualify. Let fema do it for you.
>> [ laughter ] because if fema does the first part, you may well have assistance the next time. I remember it well. Something else?
>> no, sir. That was it. Unless there's questions about county property.
>> anything else about 13? Thank you very much.
>> thanks for the good news.
>> that is good news.
