Item 27

Is 27 easy? 27. Consider and take appropriate action on request from capital metro for appointment of three county members to local fare approval committee. Commissioner Davis and I have been on this committee I guess for years. I don't think it's met for years.

>> it only meets

>> [indiscernible]

>> okay.

>> we were told that we actually have three spots on there instead of two. Commissioner Daugherty a long-time capital metro enthusiast volunteered. Any challenges to that?

>> probably not going to challenge it.

>> [laughter]

>> challenge it or join?

>> [laughter]

>> let's go mano y mano.

>> this will be fun.

>> do I need to recuse myself?

>> since you are on the board I would think so.

>> yeah.

>> you all take care of them.

>> you meant in terms of -- I thought you meant in terms of serving on the committee.

>> no, in terms of this.

>> I don't think you do.

>> let me ask this question, why is it that the board can't take this charge? I really didn't understand it.

>> the law says

>> [multiple voices]

>> do you perceive any conflicts of interest in the board members sitting --

>> they deal with everything else, money and --

>> feel comfortable --

>> they are the people on the committee.

>> three from the county.

>> I know. I'm just trying to see where the conflict would be since they made the decision.

>> I'm a member of this Commissioners court, I feel like I would have a conflict.

>> the question -- just to be safe.

>> not directly to you Margaret. The board as it exists now has representatives from -- from all segments of government. Just -- my question was since they already make -- make major money decisions, the board does, what exempts them from -- from continuing in the same road. The money -- the law says --

>> this committee --

>> to approve the fare.

>> okay.

>> I understand. The last time the committee met was -- about 10 years ago, I bet. I don't know that it makes sense, but the law does require it.

>>

>> [indiscernible]

>> we have to have one of you all. Commissioner Davis, three of us, Margaret is not. So -- so --

>> takes three according to what they're saying here, but I didn't know that was the law per se.

>> the committee is required to be available even when it's not used. So every year I think the city does the same thing that we do. It appoints members.

>> that does have a challenge there. The other five councilmembers are the anointed ones because you have two on the board. So neither one -- so it's real easy for them to get their five.

>> [multiple voices]

>> does the law prohibit us from having pour? Having -- from having four?

>> capital metro told me, they sent a letter with a cite saying we had three slots.

>> three from the city -- I mean three from the county and -- and -- I thought it would be easy.
