Number 3 is to consider and take appropriate action on candidates for appointment to the city of Austin animal adversery commission.

>> north, sherry flemming, executive manager for health and human services. As you know, the Commissioners court has authority to appoint a member to the city of Austin animal advisory commission. That commission is seated to provide information and recommendations to elected officials both with the city of Austin and Travis County related to animal issues in our community. There has been an appointy, ms. Olive, by the court, who has indicated her preference to leave the commission am we have had many residents interested in this opportunity. Which resulted in the court directing staff to engage a committee, which included the city of Austin staff in health and human services and the current chair of the animal advisory commission, to review applications and enact a process by which we could come back to you with appropriate candidates for to you consider for appointment. Staff have done that and we have provided to you three residents who have responded to nine questions that were scored by the committee. Those questions were scored, the questions themselves are included in your backup along with the answers. The committee used a process of scoring from one to ten with one being the least responsive

>> [a-bs] and ten being the most responsive answer, so in your backup you will see the three residents who answered the questions and their questionnaire score. I think it is the opinion of the committee that the three applicants have comparable experience, and any of the three would make appropriate appoint ees to the advisory commission.

>> these are the three, the ones that have been set forth before us today, re reside, one of the requirements is that they must not reside in the incorporated area. They have to live in Travis County but not reside in the city of Austin, is that true is this.

>> it is not a requirement, Commissioner.

>> not a requirement?

>> it was a recommendation from the committee that the court appoint, that we attempt to look at potential appoint ees who lived outside the city of Austin. The majority of the current members live within the city of Austin. So we asked for an opportunity to solicit residents in hopes of finding someone who might live outside the city of Austin. But it's not a requirement.

>> these three here that we are looking at today do in the live within the city of Austin of Austin.

>> that is correct, they are county residents outside the city of Austin.

>> right, okay. Thank you.

>> how many were there, sherry, that lived outside the city of Austin that made application ?

>> there were a total of six six. Three of them were not Travis County residents. So the committee did not consider those three. There were three persons who lived outside the city of Austin, and they all received the questions. Then all the remaining applicants, I guess that would be 12 or so, did not receive the questions.

>> because they were inside.

>> because they were inside the city of Austinment now, had there been, you know, a problem in the process where by the questions were not appropriate or anything along those lines, the committee had discuss the potentially sending more questions out had that occurred but we felt like we had three good candidates that we could bring forward to the court for consideration.

>> so as you stated, any of the these, in y'all's opinion, would qualify. You do have some scorings here that you have shown us. But really there was nothing that x'ed any of them out with regards to their responses or anything like that.

>> that is correct, Commissioner Daugherty.

>> judge, I would make a motion that we appoint larry tucker to the animal advisory commission.

>> second the motionmotion. Discussion? All three of these would be suitable.

>> yes, sir.

>> mr. Tucker indicated he was interested in this.

>> you're right, all of them were good. I mean, you could just almost.

>> pick a name.

>> --throw a dart. I mean, I personally have someone that advices my very strongly on a lot of the animal issues and this person was highly recommended. So that is the reason that I move that.

>> all in favor. Show Commissioners Davis, Gomez, dort ty and yours tri trily voting in favor. Show an unanimous court vot voting in favor. Let's express our thanks to the subcommittee that did this work and also to kathy olive, who has been held over for months. Probably at some point we ought to have this program, there's been a have a right of controversy over the last few months, I guess. The other thing is that we do euthanize main many animals. May be that we should consult with the Austin to try to look at that. That number is in the thousands.

>> I think that is correct, yes.

>> . Look at programs like dop shuncelike adoptions. When you think about it, the numbers are very, very depressing. The situation won't resolve itself.

>> especially when puppies get thrown outside city limits.

>> unless there is objection I would like a letter of support.

>> sure.

>> perhaps to the other two applicants as well.

>> ms. Olive has been held over.

>> the other two applicants aside.

>> do you want to do that letter for the court ?

>> I'd be happy to.

>> those two letters will get out.

>> thank you.

>> thank you.

>> since we have you there.

>> yes, sir.

>> why don't we seek the presentation on 2006-2007 Travis County immigrants
