Item 3 approve proclamation designating may 1, 2007 as "law day" in Travis County. Economics eckhardt would you -- Commissioner eckhardt would you like to read in a.

>> it is my pleasure to read in proclamation. Whereas law day is a celebration of our nation's great heritage of liberty, justice, equality under the law, whereas all youth need to understand their rights and responsibilities under the law to become effective participants in our nation's civic life and whereas the law day 2007 theme of liberty under law empowering youth, assuring democracy, encourages us to assure that our youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively make their voices heard within our community. Now, therefore, the Commissioners court of Travis County does hereby proclaim, Tuesday, may 1st, 2007 as law day! We urge the citizens, schools, businesses and media of Travis County to use this occasion to preserve and strengthen the rule of law. I would just like to say a quick moment I'm a lawyer, my father was a lawyer, my uncle was a lawyer, we have got too many lawyers in my family, too many bad jokes about that. But the rule of law means we don't have the rule of man and that is an incredibly powerful thing. Because we have the rule of law and the collective decision making on what those laws are, we have democracy instead of a monarch. We have democracy instead of a dictatorship, we have democracy instead of fascism. I think this being cinco de mayo, coming up on cinco de mayo, and having a proclamation for cinco de mayo it's also yet another vivid illustration of what the rule of law gives us. So --

>> second.

>> I'm happy. To make that motion. Cat, would you like to say a couple of words?

>> a few words, thank you, Commissioner Gomez and Commissioners. Thank you for recognizing today as law day. Day. As Commissioner eckhardt so wonderfully said, law day is about the importance of the rule of law. And it's something that was established in 1958 by president eisenhower to better educate the general public about the importance and about how our justice system works to -- to balance the powers of our governments. And this year's theme especially empowering youth and ensuring democracy is about -- about showing that today's youth are tomorrow's leaders and that it is our responsibilities as -- as the legal community to -- to educate them on what their rights and duties are in -- in the future. So thank you very much for recognizing today as law day and -- and thank you.

>> thank you very much.

>> all those in favor? Thank you.

>> would you like to come up and get the proclamation. .
