35. Consider and take appropriate action regarding order designating new election day polling places for the may 12, 2007 joint general and special elections.

>> good afternoon, dana debeauvoir, county clerk, I have my staff person with us, kim billing who helps us make sure that all of our polling places are properly described and a.d.a. Compliant. The list that you have before you are the locations that we have decided to use for this election. This election is a little bit different than the ones what have been done in the past. Because the county as an arm of the state is going to be involved in the may election, normally we are not. What we are trying to do is provide the maximum amount of coverage for the county while also addressing the fact that it's the smaller schools and cities that ring Travis County that were initially part of the selection.

>> move approval.

>> second.

>> what's the may election about now?

>> excuse me?

>> what's the issue on the may election?

>> it is a -- a constitutional amendment that will restore or play offer homestead exemptions to those with disabilities. That group is not typically recognized under district rules right now. Appraisal district rules.

>> for our taxpayers, this -- this special election costs about half a million.

>> about half a million. We have partners in this, it doesn't cost us the full price for the election. Judge, there is talk right now, there is an amendment that's -- that's making an -- a budgetary amendment that's making its way through the legislature right now that will reimburse the counties for -- for I hope 100% of their costs. We will see how much they give us. But I'm hoping for some reimbursement, I've been keeping, you know, everybody as up to date as we can about when that might happen, if it might happen.

>> now that -- not that I'm against the election, but if you coordinate the elections you can have a lot more issues on there, reduce the number of elections that you have, greatly reduce the cost, probably improve the turnout.

>> probably.

>> we just don't want to see this court take on an unfunded mandate.

>> that's enough lamenting. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
