Travis County Commissioners Court
January 23, 2007
Item 6
Number six.
>> judge, the reason I wanted to speak to this, I see each week how many claims we have over 25,000-dollar, and I noticed that we had two claims out of this 672,000-dollar that totaled to $390,000. Is there anything that you can tell me about that? What has happened -- I know you've got stop loss, have you have 250, so even with the 250 of stop loss, you've got two payments, you've got an additional $140,000 over the stop loss, so I guess what I'm looking for is what are we dealing with that costs $390,000? And can we get them into the wellness clinic? What can we do?
>> these are not -- I'm not going to divulge anything about the particular cases, but usually what we see in that high is cancer, renal failure, late stages of illness and disease. That's what you're looking at is life-threatening disease or chronic illness that adds up.
>> you can see some of the stop loss already kicked in.
>> I was aware of the stop loss that we would take care of a lot of it, but still those are big numbers and when cindy comes down and starts talking to us about what's going on with your insurance, if there's something that's out of the ordinary -- I'll ask you. Thank you. I move approval.
>> second.
>> the stop loss covers the whole year?
>> yes, sir, the plan year. Soirks if we see -- so if we see an amount over 150,000, we should get reimbursed everything over 150,000?
>> that's true, except in this instance $390,000, it might be one was 250,000 and one was 140,000.
>> so you may only get one shot at it. You may only get one 150.
>> the second claim may not have penetrated the stop loss.
>> okay. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
