35 is is to consider and take appropriate action on request to include sheriff's office counselors in the shift differential schedule for fiscal year 2007.

>> david blaine, sheriff's office corrections bureau. In this year's budget we had money to start a program called msat, which is a way of more quickly identifying persons that come into our custody with mental illnesses. As part of that project we did a restructure of our classification section and in doing so we are going to provide counseling staff on multiple shiftz. The original proposal had counseling staff 24/7, but because of vacancies and some other project that were started out in del valle, we were only able to expand it to two shifts. So now we have an evening shift for this project. In doing that afs an overieght sooight on -- oversight on their part. So I'm trying to make that right now.

>>

>> [inaudible - no mic].

>> yes, sir, but I didn't see any language specific for the counselors. And so that's why --

>> what other civilians do you have in mind? Because we've sort of been going around and around with pops over this. This will be a pig issue next year -- a big issue next year, which will include a few hundred officers, not a hand 'ful like we have here.

>> I'm just asking for the counselors. I believe you've already approved the nurses and I guess the office specialists. I'm just talking about the counselors here.

>> and you think that there is a need to include counselors the same as the nurse's and the other civilian bes that we approved?

>> yes.

>>

>> [inaudible - no mic].

>> yes, ma'am.

>> move approval.

>> second.

>> discussion? So when we did this before, though, we were careful to distinguish between civilian personnel and corrections and law enforcement officers?

>> yes, sir.

>> they still do not have shift differential and that's a big issue for them.

>> correct. They do not as far as I know.

>> I believe at this point all of our civilians with no officers, that does not include any of the officers, they do not get shift differential. Our office specialists, security coordinators, dispatchers, certified nursing assistance, they ale get a shift dif for working the evening 'and midnight shift. The nurses get a medical shift dif, which is a different rate. And I believe what major balegia is asking for is the standard civilian shift dif for the counselors.

>> that's correct.

>> we look forward to discussing this with the officers, don't we?

>> [ laughter ]

>> good luck.

>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.

>> thank y'all.
