Travis County Commissioners Court
October 3, 2006
Item 4
4 is consider and take appropriate action regarding the prohibition of outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County and related matters.
>> pete baldwin, Travis County emergency management coordinator. Nothing has changed since we extended the 30 days on the outdoor burning ban. Hays county just extended there's Saturday. They had a 450-acre fire Friday afternoon. As we get into this long stretch of high pressure dominated weather we're seeing more counties add them back in. The good news is that it looks like we are headed for a weak el nino which probably means a wetter and cooler winter, but we've got to get there first. And right now our 7 to 8-day forecast shows no precipitation. Recommendation is take no action and leave the burn ban in place.
>> so drought conditions still exist.
>> yes, sir.
>> and outdoor burning is still unsafe unless covered. And so basically the ban says residents don't do that, do not have an open burning outdoors.
>> yes, sir.
>> if you wanted the know the specifics of the orders, contact any members of the Commissioners court or pete baldwin.
>> it's on the website. The outdoor burn ban is listed on the Travis County website.
>> in spite of a few drops of rain recently conditions have not really changed.
>> no, sir.
>> by taking no action on number 4, the ban stays in place. And we did execute it --
>> last week we put in a new one.
>> okay. Thank you.
>> thank you.
