Travis County Commissioners Court
September 26, 2006
Item 5
Let's call up our 10:00 item. And that is item no. 5, consider and take appropriate action regarding the prohibition of outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County and related matters.
>> good morning. Pete baldwin. The current outdoor burning ban will expire tomorrow. We took a poll of all of our fire chiefs. We were hoping last weekend we would have gotten sufficient rains that we could come in and safely list it. Unfortunately we did not. Out of the nine responding chiefs, seven of them said that they wanted the ban to stay in place. Two said we could live with lifting it for one week. But I would suggest that I've prepared two new orders and submitted them to the judge. I would recommend that we go ahead and approve the none one. We're just fighting it quite frankly because the drought index as of yesterday was 608, that's our average in the county. Up in Pflugerville and the north i-35, they've gotten more rain and we're seeing a better green-up, but the whole southeastern part of the county is all well above 6-and a lot of the western parks of Travis County are well above 600 on the kbi range. So the recommendation is we approve a new order.
>> we need rain.
>> seriously we could stand two to four inches within -- we could stand that over a long period of time, but the current conditions are if we were to receive two to lee three inches in an hour's time we might get into some kind of flooding, but in normal conditions that would put us into floogd, but right now we're sucking it up.
>> we need to move the u.t. Game to southwest Travis County.
>> favor? That passes by unanimous vote. And I have the order. Bear yat trick. That passes by unanimous vote.
