Number four is is to approve proclamation declaring the month of October 2006 as watch your car awareness month in Travis County. And while they're coming up, should I read it? It reads, whereas motor vehicle theft is is a very important property crime, one that seriously impacts the can economy, its victim's ability to provide for their families and disrupts our very way of life, whereas Travis County and other counties all participate in a venture known as the sheriff's combined auto theft taskforce, whereas the sheriff's combined auto theft taskforce is funded by a grant from the Texas automobile theft prevention authority and local support. Whereas unlocked vehicle and keys in vehicles play very major roles in motor vehicle thefts in Travis County. Whereas the Texas automobile theft prevention authority slogan is watch your car and it has designated October 2006 as watch your car awareness month in Texas, now be it resolved that we the Commissioners court of Travis County do here by declare the month of October, 2006 as watch your car awareness month in Travis County with special emphasis on alerting citizens and residents to lock their vehicles and take their keys with them. And save their cars. Right?

>> yes, sir.

>> move approval.

>> yes, sir.

>> good morning. I'm tommy willie with the sheriff's department here in Austin. I am also the overseer of the sheriff's combined auto theft taskforce. And October is watch your car month. We're going to be doing lots of public awareness activities throughout Travis County and through the 17 county region. And we just want people to be aware of the basics of keep your car locked, remove your keys, don't keep valuables out in public where people can see them. Park in lighted areas. Just the basics of trying to prevent your vehicle from being stolen. Auto theft, it appears to be back on the rise again in the state of Texas, and we're doing our best to try to combat it and keep it down.

>> is auto theft on the rise in Travis County?

>> just a little bit. We're up I think about three percent for county.

>> lock your car and take your keys.

>> yes, sir.

>> and your companion?

>> this is our public awareness coordinator, sandy burr debt.

>> my name is sandy and again we're very proud that you proclaimed October as our auto theft awareness month. Lock your car. If you have any further questions we do have a website or call the sheriff's department auto theft division and we'll be happy to help you.

>> what's that website to get to the internet for additional information?

>> the Travis County sheriff's office, we have a special along the sheriff's office.

>> it's scattf.org.

>> people like me, lock your car, but make sure you your keys on you, not in your car. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Thank you.
