16. Approve twelve-month extension (modification no. 4) to contract no. Ps020281lb, john s. Ford, for psychiatric services

>> judge, the reason that I wanted to make a comment, I'm certainly willing to make the motion to approve this here in a second, although I do think it may be the time to make mention that we need to -- in the four years that I have been here, I don't know that we have ever had a presentation made from a psychiatrist. I mean I suppose that mr. Ford he is one of our psychiatrists with -- with -- out of the sheriff's department, is that right?

>> yes, sir.

>> and -- and one -- maybe this is the great time to bring up that maybe we need to have it on the 21st work session. I mean, lield like to see a presentation if we could about -- about what goes on with the sheriff's office and how the -- how the psycho tropeic drugs are not so much administered but that are prescribed, because I continue to hear a number of opinions from s.o., this has really gotten my attention given the fact that we have watched pharmaceuticals just go out the roof with regards to, you know, what really takes place and how is this really dealt with. So -- so it's not really a question, marvin, from -- from regards to -- you know, continuing this contract for another 12 months, but I thought it might be a good time for us to -- for me to at least bring up that. I know that's probably not something that you can weigh in on about. But that's not my job.

>> I understand. What I can say Commissioner, this is a 12-month extension. The sheriff's office has expressed a desire to kind of test the waters on this, so we currently have a request for qualifications rfq out on the street. In the interim we did go ahead and extend this contract so we could continue services. We don't anticipate this contract going a full year. So we will be, as I said, we are testing the water, hopefully we will receive some qualification statements. At that time if the court would so desire, we can bring the statements before the court, perhaps have a presentation made by those individuals who do respond if that's what you are looking for.

>> yeah. Marvin I certainly want dr. Ford to understand that, you know, I'm not questioning -- whether he's doing his job. Obviously he is. But I do think that we -- it would be helpful for me to -- to see, you know, a presentation, you know, from -- from I don't know whether it's a group of psychiatrists, I know that there's more than one I think that we deal with who it would be helpful for me to see a presentation with regards to how they go about it and because I do think that there is something about our increased pharmaceuticals going up and I would just like to somehow tie it to -- to -- not tie it to this necessarily, but probably the appropriate time to bring it up. I move approval of 16.

>> second.

>> discussion of the motion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. Thank you very much.

>> thank you.
