Travis County Commissioners Court
August 29, 2006
Item 5
Number 5 is to consider and take appropriate action on designating space for the mental health public defenders office. And this is to plant with the court an idea -- is this is not quite right for decision today, but we need to start going ahead and start think being a proposal.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners. I'm carol colburn, interim criminal justice coordinate emplt and the judge is correct, we really don't need any action on this today, but wanted to bring it to court's attention of designating space for the mental health public defender's office. This r.f.p. Has not gone out yet, but when it does, criminal justice plan sg intending to submit a proposal. If criminal justice planning would get it, fweel the appropriate place would be at post road with the current juvenile public defender. We've discussed it with cameron johnson, he is fine with that, disaz facilities for the permanent -- as does facilities for the permanent space. And this does hit up against a secondary issue on moving some departments to that location temperaturely, but really -- temperaturely, but really cjp is here to put it today before the court that if the mental health public defenders office would end up at cjp, fweel that post road is an appropriate site.
>> so thrar couple of things that must be dealt with before actually making a decision on this, but if those if's are died in our -- are decide understand our favor and we need space for this project, we think this would be appropriate is today's frengs?
>> yes, sir. This must have been a much tougher issue than I thought. We lost a quorum when you brought it it forward. Okay.
>> [inaudible - no mic].
>> judge, all we wanted to do is put it on the radar screen that if and when the public defenders office comes on line, they will need space. We have money earmark understand the budget for rent , however, we thought it would be ideal to put them with the juvenile public defenders office.
>> on behalf of the Commissioners court, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
>> judge, one question that I have. And I guess I was concerned about the parking. Will there be sufficient enough parking?
>> on post road?
>> yes. With the change and the office. So that is -- one thing in the past it was kind of a question mark in some of the parking areas there. And -- but everything is pretty good shape for this, though?
>> I think so.
>> that's weigh needed to hear.
>> there's not going to be a whole lot of traffic going in and out of the office.
>> ious wanted to make -- I just wanted to make sure.
>> thank y'all very much.
