Travis County Commissioners Court
May 23, 2006
Item 4
4. Approve proclamation recognizing sherri tomasulo on her retirement from the Travis County attorney's office. If ms. Sherri tomasulo. Would come forward along with rehasn'ts, five could be seated, the others sort of stand around here, that would be fine with us. Should I read the proclamation?
>> yes, sir.
>> it reads whereas sherri tomasulo. Will retire after 14 years of Austinning public service to the residents of Travis County, whereas sherri was born in Austin, Texas, has been blessed with four children, kids lydia, mark and nick, and four grandchildren, Austin, dillon, justin and olivia, whereas sherri graduated from the first class of del valle high school and later attended sol rol state university, whereas her former lives included owning a restaurant and working with rare books, whereas she began her career with the county attorney's office and the anti-dwi program, whereas sherri worked as the bankruptcy secretary for john mccormick and secretary to both both shirley lie warren and elliott beck in the Texas collection office, we know how taxing those duties were. That was not in the proclamation by the way [laughter] whereas sherri has over the four -- over the years developed a sterling reputation for preparing fabulous desserts and other culinary dliets [laughter] that have been endured by generations of county attorney employees, whereas throughout her distinguished career with Travis County, she has demonstrated a commitment to the taxpayers of Travis County and her co-workers and also demonstrated a willingness to help others. She is the kind of public servant we all should emulate. Therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County Commissioners court proclaim Tuesday, may 23rd, 2006, yes, today, sherri tomosula day in Travis County. We expand a special thanks to her many years for dedicated service to Travis County and extend best wishes to her in all future endeavors. I move approval.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> thank you very much. Thank you. Thank all of you. I知 -- all I can say is I致e had many happy years here and I was truly working in the right department. I really enjoyed serving the taxpayers in our tax collection and so I知 getting ready to start a new life. [laughter]

>> what are you going to do?
>> I知 sorry.
>> what are you going to do, what you got in mind.
>> the first thing that I知 going to do is go down to zachary scott and see if they need an old actress [laughter] spend more time with my grandchildren. I知 -- I知 going down to the hospital, they have a -- a service that we can go and hold babies, what a great, you know, I think that sounds like fun. And -- and going volunteer at the library. I have a lot of things that I want to do.
>> okay. Good. Going to be busy.
>> I知 going to be busy, I致e always been busy, I have a garden right now taking all of my time.
>> [indiscernible] [inaudible - no mic]
>> of course I still can't hear, guys, that's always a problem.
>> elliott, do you have anything to add?
>> well, we are certainly going to miss sherri. One of the things that I said to sherri shortly after she came or shortly after I -- after I came to the tax collection division, I said, you know, it's always great to have in any organization, someone who knows where all of the bodies were buried. She's -- she -- what I mean by that is she just knew everybody and she knew what was going on and she saw a lot of the relationships that -- that I as the new director really didn't see. And -- some of the things that she's -- she's helped me immensely. She's kept me out of trouble, she's -- she's -- or out of some trouble and she's -- she's really provided a lot of direction and a lot of professionalism to our division, that's really meant a lot I think to everyone in the division over the years that I have been here.
>> thank you.
>> no last minute parting shots at elliott beck? [laughter]
>> you got the floor.
>> he said no parting shots at elliott beck?
>> [laughter]
>> no. I知 going to be sweet.
>> I told her even after the proclamations that she could still change her mind and stay if she wanted to stay.
>> there's a reason that we have a tax collection rate and the delinquent property tax collection rate that is the envy of 253 other counties, sherri is part of that team. Very proud of your service. [ applause ]
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
>> thank you, we appreciate your 14 years of service.
>> thank you.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you, sherri.
>> ms. Tomasolua, dwoant give any -- we don't give any rolex watches, but a beautiful proclamation.
>> I appreciate it. Thank you very much, judge.
>> thank you. Best of luck to you.
>> thank you.
>> okay.
