Travis County Commissioners Court

Item 29
>> [one moment please for change in captioners]
>> good morning.
>> good morning. I’m trish young with the Travis County hospital district, soon hope to be the Travis County health care district. This item that we've brought to you is a request for approval to change the name from Travis County hospital district, which was essentially the name given to us by legislation. You will recall in the last regular session we did seek an amendment to the legislation that would permit a name change, and of course, one requirement of that was that the Commissioners court approve that name change. Our board did take action at our last regularly scheduled board meeting in April to approve the change from the hospital district to health care district. We believe that this more appropriately represents what we're trying to do and accomplish within the district. We're not -- first of all, we do not operate a hospital, even though we do own one. We have the hospital leased to seton under their care and custody. And we are focusing on how we might impact the health care of the community overall and believe that this name more appropriately says what we're about and trying to accomplish. We would request your approval of this item.
>> did you explain why health care makes more sense than a hospital district?
>> health care is a much broader term than hospital. Of course, what we do is a lot broader than just provide hospital care to patients.
>> it's really more about the issue and not about a building.
>> that's exactly right.
>> I would move approval.
>> second.
>> ms. Young, can you tell me what type of challenges that you may especially counter with this -- encounter with this particular name change? Challenges meaning like literature of things that have gone out to the public that may be looking at you as a hospital district, but then again, with the name change would there be any type of negative impact on those that are using your services?
>> that's a good question. The timing of this change actually is such that we don't have to make a significant amount of change to published literature and documents as such. We are in the process of designing what we're referring to as the district's identity, a logo that's associated with the district that we can use for public purposes so people do associate a particular name and design with us. Travis County hospital district is a legal name, so it would require a few modification changes. For example, we have a tax identification number and we'll need to notify them that it's now the Travis County health care district as opposed to hospital district. Because we have such a long name, we tend to get referred to as tchd anyway, so it's not a huge change for people to make. In fact, a lot of people call us the health care district now anyway. Our website is Travis County hd.org, so there's no change required. Our website now of course has our name as travis hospital district, but it will be changed to health care district as well. So it's actually a very minimal changes to documents and items that people already identify with this. We don't anticipate it will cause us any difficulty.
>> we need to make sure ms. Spears know that so when the tax bills get written, it's down there as hospital district.
>> we're accumulating a list of notifications. Appreciate that.
>> all in favor? That carries unanimously. Thank you very much.
