5. Approve resolution recognizing the month of may 2006 as "mental health month" and may 8, 2006 as "children's mental health awareness day" in Travis County. Should I read the proclamation. Reads ... Mental health, mental illness will strike one in five children in a given year, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion or economic status. And whereas people who have mental illnesses can recover and lead full productive lives and thrive in their communities, whereas an estimated two-thirds of adults and young children who have maement disorders -- mental health disorders are not receiving the help that they need. Whereas community based culturally competent family driven supports and services that respond to individual and family needs are cost effective and beneficial to consumers and the community, whereas mental health month each may helps to raise awareness and understanding of mental health and illness and whereas Travis County continues to support the development and implementation of the Travis County systems of care, to ensure that children, adults and families have access to the services and supports they need, therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby proclaim the month of may as mental health month and may 8th, 2006 as children's mental health awareness day in Travis County and call upon the citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools in Travis County to recommit our community to increasing aware and understanding of mental health and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people who have mental illness and I move approval.

>> good morning, judge, Commissioners. Sherri flemming, executive manager for health and human services and veterans service. We appreciate your attention to national children's mental health awareness day. The activities that we will be having in our community. National children's mental health awareness day is a day for communities across the nation to promote resillence, recovery, the transformation of mental health service delivery for children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families. We have many partners across the community, including the school district, Austin Travis County mhmr and the Travis County Commissioners court in ensuring that children with serious mental health needs have the services that they need in our community so that they can live and thrive and be successful and productive citizens. So we want to thank you for your support of mental health programs and invite you on Monday, may 8th to the Austin city hall south plaza for a public celebration at 10:30 where we will be observing mental health awareness day. We have some items we want to circulate to the court. We thank you for the resolution this morning.
