Travis County Commissioners Court
January 24, 2006
Item 32
32. Is to canvas election returns and declare results for the January 17th, 2006 special election. To fill a vacancy in district 48.
>> thank you, judge. The election was held, waive reading, please, of the precinct by precinct results. Let me give you a recap of the outcome of the election. There were four candidates on the ballot. The top vote getter, donna howard, democrat, with 6,705 votes at 49.46%. Ben bentzin second top vote getter with 5,125 votes at 37.81%. Those two candidates now advance to a runoff election, which I believe as of late yesterday afternoon, not quite yet, we believe that election will be called by the governor's office shortly for February the 14th and you will see those two names on the ballot for the special election. Just as a note to Commissioners court, this is also in the election law under expedited election.
>> okay.
>> okay. Move that we waive the reading of the full results and accept this summary.
>> second.
>> and move that we approve the canvassing. As evidenced by the report filed with the court. That's sufficient? Seconded by Commissioner Daugherty. Discussion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you.
>> and we do have -- a canvassing order here, don't we?
>> sure do. We have it here.
>> sure do.
