Travis County Commissioners Court

January 10, 2006
Item 14

View captioned video.

14 is to consider board and commitment assignment for Commissioners court members for 2006. And take appropriate action. We review this item annually to consider basically whether we will keep serving on the same Commissioner boards, commissions, et cetera. Or make changes, last week we did distribute a list of current court members's assignments.

>> > judge, I wanted to make you aware that the e.m.s. Advisory committee that I知 assigned to, that is now disbanded with our adopting the new interlocal. Therefore that one is no longer needed, but we do still need the e.m.s. Subcommittee on the very next page, the subcommittee of the court that still looks at the e.m.s. Issues. Emergency services, medical services, gone away.

>> > yes, sir.

>> > you were the one appointee on there?

>> > yes, sir, from the county.

>> > okay. You finally got your way on that one, huh?

>> > we worked our way out of existence.

>> > what about the 911 regional communications center that I知 on? I don't know that I have gotten any calls for meetings at all. For a good while.

>> > was that really more for getting a combined communication --

>> > could be that's run out at well.

>> > run its course.

>> > the question for pete baldwin is whether the regional communications center still exists. Whether good government eliminated the need for it.

>> > okay.

>> > I would raise the same question on the central Texas rma subcommittee. We really got that one going in the start-up years of the rma. When Travis County still had dollars being invested in there. They are now kind of on their own. And we've launched them at the top of of page 2. I defer to you who are on that committee. Do you think what we are doing with this new committee that I知 on with -- with brewster mccracken, all of us, what we are doing, the toll road plan, that we ought to have that at least in place -- I don't know what's going to come out of that thing, but it's not without its controversy. So it may be wise just to leave it. Something needs to be done with it because I do think that probably something is going to come out of this committee where it will be an rma sort of an action. That's just my opinion. If you don't think that's going to happen, but I think there's at least a possibility of -- of something happening and that would create a different --

>> > oh, john!

>> > sorry.

>> > [indiscernible] on that fall?

>> > [laughter] [inaudible - no mic]

>> > anyway, judge, I don't know if anybody else feels --

>> > certainly not using up any of your time right now, I don't have any problem keeping it there until we have a further -- just one of those question marks that I had.

>> > pete?

>> > I was responding to --

>> > 911 regional communications center, the core leader that was -- is that --

>> > no, ma'am. That is not active. Since it's all the interlocals have come together, you have your governing board, your operating board and then that and then everything comes back to the court for approval.

>> > we can do away with that?

>> > yes, sir.

>> > thanks.

>> > we worked our way out of a job.

>> > yeah.

>> > okay. Boy I had a lot of time.

>> > let's just leave that central Texas regional mobility in place for another year and see what happens. Commissioner Davis and I have perfect attendance so far. [laughter] anything else? -- that capital metro local government approval committee, I think that's required by law.

>> > yes.

>> > but unless there are increases in fees, it never meets --

>> > once in a million years.

>> > it meet once in 10 years because I was on that, it was like one thing took all of 20 minutes one time in eight years.

>> > I知 happy to continue representing Travis County on the capital metro board and do you think maybe they need two Commissioners on that?

>> > are you interested?

>> > judge, I知 happy with all of my assignments.

>> > but I知 nod interested in the others. I知 not interested in the others [laughter] did we get something from melinda powell?

>> > I elected to -- to not be a part of that. That was haysstenning up the process as far as having to post meetings with three of us being on that, Commissioner Gomez, yourself and I so we didn't a whole lot of things, my main interest in getting involved in that is looking at robert mueller as far as part of the -- part of the future hopefully campus of Travis County being located there. Of course a lot of things didn't pan out. Conversion of that, that doesn't bother me at all if that was to -- to move in the other direction as far as you and Commissioner Gomez being on the committee. We talked about that, s.h. 130, coming back.

>> > [multiple voices]

>> > structure on that Travis County. S.h. 130 growth corridor for me --

>> > absolutely.

>> > we also formally eliminated two of these committees. Otherwise the membership on each of them remain the same. Want a motion today or do you want to mull another week?

>> > I知 ready.

>> > judge, I move the changes that we talked about today. Which also included planning committee going down to two persons, Commissioner Davis relink quirking his seat on that.

>> > second. And the other two can hes going away.

>> > -- committees going away.

>> > yes, sir.

>> > the emergency services advisory committee and the 911 regional communication center core leader committee. Any discussion of the motion? All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
