Item 36

View captioned video.

This morning we deliberately delayed number 36, which is to consider and take appropriate action on the following orders: a is a main early voting location. B is early voting permanent polling locations. And c of 36 is early voting mobile polling locations for the January 17th 2006 district 48 special election. And I thought we ought to get somebody from the clerk's office because early voting for that special election starts real soon.

>> January 3rd, which is next Tuesday. And I’m gale fisher, the elections division manager for the Travis County clerk's elections division, and I’m here with michael wynn, who is our program manager. And we just thought we would let you know about the special election. This is an emergency election that was called by the governor for district 48 only. It's to elect a replacement for todd baxter who resigned I think in late October, who was the Texas state representative for district 48.

>> early voting starts on the 3rd?

>> January 3rd. And we're only going to be -- we're going to have early voting locations in the district only, so we'll be using our usual early voting locations that are within district 48. The main location will be airport at the county clerk's offices. And for the center of town, since there wasn't any central location that was in the district, we have the housen library in tarrytown that we will be using for the first time.

>> and that's c?

>> yes. Remind me what c is?

>> that's the special election.

>> yes.

>> mobile polling locations will be in your usual senior centers that we do in the area or rec centers or just our typical mobile locations that we usually do in that district.

>> all right. I’m looking mate backup. Are they listed in the backup?

>> yes, they are. It's all on one page this time. You will see mobile on the right-hand side and you will see your permanent on the left-hand side. There's only 39 precincts involved in this election.

>> okay.

>> any questions?

>> oh, joy.

>> and what about a and b?

>> the main early voting location and our permanent locations. Main early is going to be at the Travis County clerk's office on airport. And then the permanent locations, normal locations, randall's research, randall's westlake hills, north bureau community center and then the housen branch library and these will have the regular 7:00 to 7:00 hours except the library. Housen will be operating during the hours of the library, and all these locations can be found on the county website. If you go to elections and early voting locations, you will find them all on the website.

>> and for those who are computer illiterate.

>> yes, there is. Thank you for prompting me on those issues. There will also be fliers available at the voter registration office and the county clerk's elections division we'll have fliers that people can come pick up.

>> okay. Move approval of 36 a, b and c.

>> second.

>> any more discussion? Thank y'all very much for coming down. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
