Number 2 is to approve proclamation regarding Austin adoption day in Travis County to be held on November 17th, 2005 at gardner-betts juvenile justice center.

>> whereas the county Commissioners court of the county of Travis County, Texas recognize the importance of giving children permanent, safe and loving families through adoption and whereas almost 3,000 children in Texas, more than 350 children in central Texas and more than 141 children in Travis County are waiting for permanent families, whereas to help these children find permanent nurturing families through the efforts of the honorable w. Jean meurer, the honorable darlene burn, 126th district court judge, the honorable j. Andrew hatch cock, civil court associate judge, the honorable rhonda hurley, associate civil judge, and the honorable john hathaway, associate judge, of Travis County juvenile probation department will open their doors on Thursday, November 17th, 2005 to finalize the adoptions of local children and joined the Austin bar association, casa, the department of protective and family services and other organizations to celebrate all adoptions and whereas this effort along with similar celebrations in all 50 states around the country will offer children the chance to live with stable and loving families and encourage other dedicated individuals to make a powerful difference in the lives of a child through adoption. Now therefore the Commissioners court of the county of travis in the state of Texas here by proclaims November 17th, 2005 as Austin adoption day in Travis County. And in so doing urge all citizens to join in a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of adoption, signed this eighth day of November, 2005. And I move approval.

>> my name is andy hatchcock, I’m an associate judge for the civil courts of Travis County and with me to my immediate right I think you know chief stella medina and her executive assistant debra trotter. To my left is denise hyde, who is the chair of the Austin bar association, Austin adoption day committee. And I’m here to visit with you briefly this morning about a very happy occasion, which is Austin adoption day, November the 17th. This is the fourth year that Austin has had an adoption day. And its purpose it to gather to celebrate and honor all families who adopt and to encourage others to adopt children from foster care. And I’m pleased to report to you that this year we expect to complete around 85 adoptions of children in Travis County. Last year we did about 50, so that's a significant increase, and this year promises to be a very happy and joyous celebration, and we invite all of you to come and participate in that.

I just remember the courtroom being filled with teddy bears that the kids could wind up picking their furry beast to go home with them, but it was just quite a joyous event. And judge kocurek and I were the cryers sitting in the jury box and in promised it will be an equally heart felt avent.
