View captioned video.

Citizens communication is next. This is to give residents an opportunity to address the court on any matter not on the agenda, any matter not on the agenda for up to three minute. And the first citizen is greg hamilton, our county sheriff. Second one is monica canales. Sheriff, as usual, is escorted by plenty of security. [ laughter ]
>> good morning, judge and Commissioners. I wanted to advise the Commissioners that Travis County sheriff's department and our community service division have teamed up with several law enforcement agencies and different churches in the community, and we will be serving thanksgiving dinner -- lunch for the evacuees at a location here. We don't want to put the location publicly because I think we'll get more than the evacuees at that particular place. And I just wanted to advise the Commissioners and give you an invite if you choose to do so on thanksgiving day. And we will get with you and give you the location. I would like to -- I also have major tim sylvester here and also derek taylor. And derek taylor is the spearhead of this particular function, and I’d like for him to give you a little information on what's going to be going on on thanksgiving day.
>> as the sheriff said, we're partnering up with local law enforcement, churches, businesses, different volunteers from around Travis County. And we expect a number of 1,000 people that we'll be serving thanksgiving lunch on that day. We're going to pick them up from different locations, take them to the lunch site and bring them back home after we serve them turkey, dressing ham and so on and so forth. And in the contact, and my number is 854-4315. Anyone who wants to volunteer or take part of this event, they're welcome to come take part in it. We've already had donations from hill country bible church and the lions club of Austin. And we're hoping everyone will help us for the hurricane victims who are in the Travis County area.
>> and one of the other things I would like to say is we put out a challenge to our staff over at Travis County sheriff's department challenging them to sponsor a turkey and a ham. That's $72. And we've had several people who have stepped forward. And if anybody else wants to step up to the plate, we would greatly appreciate it.
>> [inaudible - no mic].
>> honey baked ham.
>> major sylvester, welcome.
>> thank you. Judge Biscoe and Commissioners, we're very enthusiastic about being able to put on this program for our new citizens of Travis County. Some may be temporary, some may be long time citizens who may set up permanent residency here and we think it a good tomorrow to extend fellow zip to fellow human beings and show them that despite the problems they've been having back at home that we're going to welcome them here and show them a good time and we'll all sit down together at the table and have a good thanksgiving dinner.
>> okay. $72 covers a turkey and a ham?
>> yes, sir.
>> but I assume if somebody had $50 they wanted to send, officer taylor would take it also.
>> yes, sir. And if someone just wants to take make a donation, they can make it out to the sheriff's memorial and benevolence society. And they can contact me at my number and we can talk about details of whether to mail a check, I can pick the check up or if they want to drop it off. And we also need volunteers to help set up, serve and clean up on that particular day.
>> and one of the things that I would like to say is that rolling wood pd is on board and also Austin police department. They have made contact with capital metro and we're going to be using buses, and we have located -- and also bee cave pd. We have located several apartment complexes where there are 50 and 60 families, and we're going to give them a time that capital metro is going to be there to pick them up. And take them over to the site and give them a ride back to wherever they're located.
>> sounds good.
>> sheriff, that's great, and I would like to just personally commend you and your hard working staff for the outreach and the work that you have done. I mean, from security to all the things this morning that you're bringing forth and all those things that you've done thus far. I just think you're doing a tremendous job and I think you and your department ought to be commended very highly. I want to thank y'all for that.
>> thank you.
>> I’m going to see if I can borrow $72 from Commissioner Davis. [ laughter ]
>> come on by, judge. [ laughter ]
>> thank you.
>> thank y'all very much.
>> ms. Canales is next. Morning.
>> good morning, Commissioners. My name is monica canales and in with the Travis County human resource management department. And I’m here this morning to tell you about our combined charities fund-raiser. This year hr will have and appreciate your co-worker button drive. Each button will be one dollar and hr will begin taking orders this Friday at the festival through November the fourth. There will be about 15 different slogans available such as second to none, vip and genius at work and hr has shown five different slogans to show our appreciation to the Commissioners court. To Commissioner Gomez the shining star button. To Commissioner Daugherty the old faith of the button. To Commissioner Sonleitner the super woman button. To Commissioner Davis the always exceeds expectations button and to Commissioner Biscoe the top dog button. I would like to present them to you at this time. [ laughter ] [ applause ]
>> I’m glad I didn't get the one that said old on it. [ laughter ] my odometer turns over in two weeks.
>> thank you very much.
>> this isn't say old, it just says ol, ol faithful.
>> thank you very much.
>> now, as a reminder, this Friday we do have our annual halloween festival to raise funds for combined charities and it starts at 11:00 o'clock and goes to 2:00. And there's a short program beginning at 11:15, to plenty of fun to be had this year. Come bay for lunch to all employees and the public, right? Plenty of food and fun.
>> who is in the dunking booth this year?
>> I don't know.
>> well, the people's choice, Commissioner Sonleitner, turned them down, I believe. Christian will be there again, christian, danny hobby. Leroy was too smart this year.
>> I would pay money not to dunk danny hobby.
>> christian is a big favorite. He's back. [ laughter ] the haunted house is there again. And that was a big hit last year.
