14. Approve contract award for a point of sale system, rfp no. P050001-jr, to the highest ranked proposer, us edirect. (tnr)
>> judge, what I have -- [indiscernible] I would like a little clarification on, I understand that we have 187,800-dollar bid. For this. I guess that was -- I was more in question about the maintenance agreement that -- that I wasn't real sure, bonnie, on how, I mean, this $14,900 maintenance agreement that we have with this company, that's after the warranty, and the warranty is -- how long -- how long is this warranty?
>> the initial warranty is one year.
>> so after -- so that's a one-year warranty. And.
>> [inaudible - no mic]
>> right.
>> yes, sir.
>> now, is that a yearly maintenance.
>> yes, sir.
>> yes, it is.
>> man, that -- I mean that just seems exorbitant to me to have a $15,000 a year maintenance agreement on a -- I mean after a one-year deal. I sure we have bought a nice piece of --
>> I think this is industry standard. I think if you ask joe in i.t., what he typically pays on software is an ongoing annual maintenance contract. You will find this is probably not untypical of what software companies charge for annual maintenance. I mean, I think your statement is corrected, but this is the typical what the industry charges.
>> it's typically actually 10 to 15% annual maintenance cost, this is less than 10%. So I think jorge and the team did a good job of negotiating down some, even though it does seem high.
>> jorge, did we do any research on, I mean, I guess this is not the first that u.s. Edirect has sold. I mean, this system. I mean, what kind of history do we have, I mean, if you tell me hey we did the research on it and people almost never have to use, you know, the maintenance, I mean, that's one thing.
>> right. We have -- we did do some research and in fact this u.s. Edirect, part of the reason they were awarded the contract, the fact that we plan to award the contract is that they have such an extensive history with various municipalities and counties around the country. So long story short, they -- this is pretty typical, as joe mentioned. In terms of the -- of the amount that we are paying. And apparently this is something that -- that from my understanding you do utilize because you do have to call on them for support services, pretty typically.
>> this will also pay for annual updates. Upgrades will be a part of this fee.
>> well, I mean, obviously I’m -- I’ve never had to purchase this kind of equipment in my business, I mean, thank goodness I didn't, I mean, boy we wouldn't, I mean, it's quite a deal that hopefully you don't have this planned obsele subcommittee nce, I mean, my gosh, after a few years you have as much cost in the maintenance agreement but, I mean, if the history shows, I did see the writeup that it wasn't the least expensive, but the history that you all found that u.s. Edirect was really the ones to go with this --
>> it'sing implementing quite a few state agencies around the country. The demonstrations, this company blew them away.
>> okay, I heard they did a good job with that. I move approval.
>> second.
>> any more discussion?
>> thanks.
>> thank you all very much.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
