Travis County Commissioners Court
July 19, 2005
Item 3
Number 3 is next, and that is to consider and take appropriate action regarding the prohibition of outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Travis County. Mr. Baldwin.
>> pete baldwin, Travis County emergency management coordinator. We're going to ask that the burn ban stay in place, not lifted, even though we've received some beneficial rains over the weekend, I met with all of the chiefs yesterday over a luncheon and took a poll. We basically had people in the south that received as much as an inch, inch and a half, but then we had other areas in the north that received less than a half inch. Our current humidity levels are helping us out right now as far as any fire danger. We've got emily wandering around headed into the coast, still not exactly sure exactly what effect that will have this week. But from the poll and the vote taken yesterday from the chief's meeting, they would like to see it remain in effect for another week and determine, see if we get anything out of emily.
>> did we apply the index?
>> the index, we're still over the 500 mark even with the small amount of rain we got simply because we're running such a deficit long-term.
>> okay. And the order that we approved --
>> it expires next Wednesday, which means that today, i've just given a copy to the county attorney to review to make sure the dates are correct. I will supply you with a new order today to be on for next week under this same agenda heading and we can discuss it at that time.
>> okay. If we need it next week, we'll have it on. In the meantime, the order stays in effect.
>> yes, sir. Thank you.
>> thank you very much.
