Travis County Commissioners Court
July 19, 2005
Item 2
Number 2 is to approve proclamation recognizing the 22nd annual national night out in Travis County on August 2, 2005. And should I read the proclamation?
>> yes. Can I say a few words?
>> well, can you do them after the reading?
>> okay, go ahead, sir.
>> that way you will make my reading irrelevant. [ laughter ] I can get into these, you know. It reads, whereas the national association of town watch is sponsoring a unique nationwide crime and drug prevention program on August 2nd, 2005 called national night out, whereas national night out is designed to, one, heighten crime awareness, two, generate support for and participation in local and anti-crime programs. Three, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships, and four, send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Whereas the 22nd annual national night out provides Travis County a unique opportunity to join forces with thousands of other communities around the world in promoting cooperative police and community crime and drug prevention efforts. Whereas the Travis County sheriff's office plays a vital role in establishing joint crime and drug prevention efforts in Travis County. And is supporting national night out 2005 locally. Whereas the Travis County sheriff's office encourages all citizens to become aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact of individual and collective participation can have on reducing crime and drug abuse in Travis County. And whereas police community partnerships and neighborhood safety and awareness cooperation are important themes of the national night out program, now therefore be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County Commissioners court encourage all citizens of Travis County to join the sheriff's office and other law enforcement agencies, local business sponsors and the national association of town watch and the Travis County Commissioners court in supporting the 22nd annual national night out. And I move approval. Morning.
