5. Approve proclamation designating the month of may 2005 as "hispanic cultural awareness month" in Travis County and recognizing the nineteenth annual combined city/county cinco de mayo celebration. Cinco de mayo thank you, I think the committee is represented here, joe vel there and h.r. We do this again just to remind ourselves about a historical event that took place 143 years ago in the battle of pueblo in which men and women led by general zaragosa from goliad, Texas, successfully defended themselves against french troops, whereas 19 years ago Travis County hosted the cinco de mayo celebration in order to keep alive the spirit of community that is signified by the battle of peubla to recognize the men and women who fought and those who still work to ensure our freedom. Whereas this year's event marks the 9th annual combined city of Austin and Travis County celebration and is sponsored by many elected and appointed officials and department heads, from the city of Austin and Travis County, along with the downtown Austin alliance and whereas Travis County will celebrate cinco de mayo at wooldridge park from 11:00 to 2:00, this Thursday, may 5th, featuring the mariachi and foklorico dancers. Plenty of boots and refresh -- booths and refreshments. Now be it proclaimed that the Travis County Commissioners court does here by recognize the 143rd anniversary of cinco de mayo and encourages all citizens to participate in Thursday's festivities. Furthermore we hereby designate may as hispanic cultural awareness month in Travis County, Texas and encourage all citizens to participate in this month-long celebration of hispanic culture and move approval.
