2. Approve proclamation recognizing the month of may 2005 as "older americans month" in Travis County.
>> can I read the proclamation? It reads whereas Travis County is home to more than 60,000 citizens aged 60 years or older, whereas older americans of Travis County are a vital part of our nation's demographic makeup, whereas older citizens or members of our community are entitled to dignified lives free from the fears and misconceptions about aging, whereas communities in Travis County must strive to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, understand and address their evolving needs and support their caregivers, whereas Travis County citizens are dependent upon intergenerational cooperation and support and benefit from our collective efforts to serve older americans, and the people who love them, and whereas this year marks the 40th anniversary of the passage of the older americans act by the united states congress, now therefore be it resolved that we in the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby proclaim the month of may, 2005 as older americas month in Travis County Texas and encourage all texans to recognize older americans contributions to our community. Move approval.

>> good morning. Good morning. My name is mary teeters, co-chair of the aging services council. I am joined today by other members of the council. If they would introduce themselves ...

>> I’m patricia [indiscernible] representing the area agency on aging of the capital area.
>> joyce [indiscernible] with the Austin groups for the elderly.
>> corey darling, here at Travis County health and human services.
>> I wanted to give you all just a little bit of background on the aging services council. We were formed in November of 2003, as a grass roots collaboration of more than 20 organizations and we came together to support diverse issues that impact our older neighbors. The purpose of the council is to ensure that older adults and their caregivers have the information and services they need to support themselves and family members as they age. The council has actually developed a model system of support that is client centered. And promotes vital and successful aging. One of the goals of the council is to promote community awareness and investment in aging issues. The council thanks the Commissioners court for recognizing and supporting older adults during the month of may as older americans month, but also throughout the year. The theme this year is celebrate long-term living. Older adults continue to make valuable contributions to our community, but oftentimes have unique concerns that impact them as they age. The council acknowledges that our elders are living longer, but we want to ensure that they are also living better. Together we can make Travis County a great place to go, to grow old. If you are interested, for more information about the council, we have a website. At www.agingservicescouncil.org and the council is indebted to the community action network for their support and specifically for the design of our website. Thank you all very much for the proclamation.
>> thank you.
>> it's amazing how much you appreciate the contributions of older americans the older you get. All in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> take the proclamation.
>> come get your proclamation, though.
