5. Approve resolution recognizing the month of may 2005 as "child abuse prevention month" in Travis County. And should I read it since I’m on a roll.
>> plooz, sir. Please, sir.
>> while you all are being seated coming forward, it reads whereas a society is judged by how it protects its most vulnerable members and no group of children is immune from potential child abuse or neglect. Every child has a right to live in good health, learn and grow in a safe environment, receive care and protection, develop a positive self image. Whereas in fiscal year 2004 more than 180,843 cases of child abuse or neglect were investigated in the state of Texas and 50,529 were confirmed. Whereas Travis County has -- had 1,989 confirmed victims of child abuse and neglect. With a rate of 9.8 victims per 1,000 in fiscal year 2004. Whereas our entire community should increase its awareness of present day problems and their effects on children and adults should make a concentrated effort to see through the eyes, listen through the ears and feel through the hearts of young persons. Whereas the president and the united states department of health and human services children's bureau office on child abuse and neglect recognize April as child abuse prevention month, whereas April's observance of child abuse prevention month is an ideal opportunity for the community to come together with child advocates and the Travis County children's protective services board to raise the issue and promote the prevention of child abuse and neglect; whereas Travis County invests in programs that a -- invests in program that support families by strengthening positive parent-child interaction and healthy child development and whereas when we provide for our children, we provide for our shared future. Every one of us can play a role in keeping children safe and supporting their successful development together as a community we can truly make a difference. Now, therefore, be it resolved that we the members of the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby proclaim the month of April as child abuse prevention month in Travis County and encourage all resident to raise the issues about wearing a blue ribbon throughout the month of April and to reach out to children and families in our community and we have our blue ribbons with us, or you all brought one for us, thank you.

>> thank you, we wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you very much for your support from the court for the initiatives within Travis County health and human services and veterans services. That provide intervention and prevention services to the children and family of this county. We have with us representatives from those various programs that through the Commissioners court support those children and family. We have representatives from the healthy families group. Wade. We also have representatives from the Travis County child protective services board, lofton. We have the supervise sore for the children's first program that works closely with c.p.s. In providing intervention services for families. We also have representatives from the triad program and the children's partnership who provide services to high needs children. We have also brought you -- additional blue ribbons for you to wear. And we just want to again say thank you so much for the support that you provide us so that we can provide that to the children and families of our communities. We believe very strongly that if we support children and families in a healthy way, those families can -- children can grow up and support the community. Thank you very much.
