3. Approve resolution recognizing the 33rd year of the retired senior volunteer program. Otherwise known as rsvp. And should I read the resolution?
>> please.
>> it reads: whereas one of our nation's most precious natural resources is the collective experience and abilities of our older citizens; whereas the retired senior volunteer program, rsvp, promotes older adult volunteers and resources in meeting critical community needs such as health, education, social services, public safety and environmental concerns; whereas rsvp offers opportunities for people 51 and older to actively -- 55 and older to actively participate in the life of their communities through significant and meaningful volunteer service; whereas in 2004, 1,063 local rsvp volunteers contributed more than 235,615 volunteer hours of service to 176 local non-profit organizations and public agencies in Travis County, the value of this donated rsvp services amounted to $3,626,115 and that's at the minimum wage, right if.
>> that is a wage that's determined by the independent sector, the non-profit organization that determines the amount, the value for volunteer service hour.
>> we have gotten a little more sophisticated with that, haven't we?
>> that's right.
>> whereas the corporation for national service that acknowledged Travis County's rsvp as a state leader in the area of volunteer management and program development and whereas in celebration of 33 years of service in Travis County rsvp will host its annual volunteer recognition luncheon on April 6th, 2005, from 11:30 a.m. To 1:30 p.m. At the Austin hilton hotel. The theme for this year's recognition luncheon is viva volunteers, with festive entertainment from mariachi, now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby proclaim April 6th, 2005 as retired senior volunteer program day in Travis County, Texas and extend heartfelt thanks to rsvp for its many contributions to our community and I move approval.
>> second.
>> good morning.
>> good morning. Sherri flemming executive manager for health and human services. We just wanted to thank the court for its resolution in addition to its continued support of the retired and senior volunteer program as we move into an age where the baby boomers, if you will, will be retiring, we -- we hear that they will be looking for opportunities to volunteer and so we see this program as continuing to be a -- an avenue for our citizens to -- to provide much-needed service to their community. With that said, I would like to introduce our program director, fred lugo and then another member of the staff jeff campbell.
>> jeff is our community outreach coordinator. Starting to discover rsvp in recognizing the fact that upon retirement they still want to make some type of contribution to their community. They do so by becoming part of our rsvp. We offer a multitude of volunteer opportunities. Meeting critical community needs. And as you can see, from the resolution, there is quite an impact in terms of the value -- added value to the tax -- for the taxpayers of Travis County. But I feel guilty because we do not have volunteers here today. Fortunately you will be able to meet them tomorrow at our volunteer recognition banquet. You will get to see some of the good work that they are doing throughout Travis County.
>> some of us are on the court are rsvp eligible, you know.
>> are you 55 already.
>> 55 is a very young age, Commissioner Sonleitner.
>> and one of us is not. [laughter]
>> getting there quickly.
>> one out of four.
>> not yet.
>> sorry to cut you off there.
>> thank you for your continued support.
>> frank, are you singing this year?
>> I will not be singing. [multiple voices]
>> thank you, Karen.
>> a lot of volunteers, a lot of hours of service. So we are -- we show our appreciation tomorrow, that is the [indiscernible]
>> yes, sir.
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> thank you all.
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
