>> may I do you the honor. It reads whereas social workers have the right education, licensure and experience to guide individuals, families and communities through complex issues and choices, whereas social workers connect individuals, families and communities to available resources, whereas social workers are dedicated to improving the society in which we live, whereas social workers are positive and compassionate professionals, whereas social workers stand up for others to make sure that everyone has access to the same basic rights, protections and opportunities and whereas social workers help people help themselves wherever and whenever they need it most in Travis County, social workers provide services through the courts, corrections, probation, health and human services and veterans services, child protective services, those are all Travis County departments. And many other settings, such as private practices, family counseling, nursing homes, hospices, mental health programs, hospitals, schools and university and prisons, corporations, as well as public and private agencies and every now and then social workers help Travis County Commissioners court. Right? Now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioners court by the Travis County Commissioners court that all citizens of Travis County are urged to recognize professional social workers in their commitment and dedications to individuals, families and communities through advocacy, service delivery, research and education. And to observe the month of March, 2005, as professional social work month, joining with the national association of social workers in celebration and support of social workers, and the social work profession, move approval.

On behalf of the department, I would just like to thank all of the social workers that we have within the department, they are kind of the essence what was we do at health and human services. They are probably one of the more undercompensated groups who truly get their rewards not from that paycheck, but from what they do for the people that they work with. We have representatives here this morning from our family support services unit and from our deaf and hard of hearing unit. The other departments are divisions -- divisions were not able to send representatives here because they are all out doing their job, but we do thank each and every one that we have working for our department.

>> they are licensed. No pretenders.
>> my name is christie moffit, I manage the palm square community center.
>> good morning, I'm andrea bussey, I serve as a case management coordinator for family support services, I would just like to thank you all for the resolution as well as acknowledge social workers all over our community that serve in elected office as macro level providers, doing research and planning as well as all of us that work with individuals and families as well.
>> hi. I'm alicia pena, I'm a social worker at deaf services. And my name ingrid, a social worker at Travis County services for the deaf and hard of hearing. I'm lynnette fant, interpreter.

>> social workers wouldn't make good politician, they don't talk much [laughter]
>> we have some excellent politicians that are social workers [laughter]
>> you all keep up the good work, we appreciate all you do.
>> thank you very much.
