Travis County Commissioners Court
February 22, 2005
Item 6
6. Receive report from healthy families Travis County regarding program review conducted by healthy families america/prevent child abuse america.
>> good morning.
>> good morning, judge, Commissioners, sherri flemming, executive manager for health and human services. As the court is aware, in 1997, the Commissioners court approved the implementation of healthy families program in Travis County. And that program provides home based parenting and child development, education, to first-time parents in addition to linkage to community resources and support to new families. Healthy families of Travis County follows the healthy families of america model which research has shown to be an effective -- to be effective in preventing child mall treatment. The department was notified in late January as a result of an exhaustive review by prevent child abuse america, the parent organization of healthy family Travis County has met the highest standards of professional performance and has earned credentialing for the Travis County sponsored program as a provider of high quality home visitation services and that credentialing is effective through November 11th, 2008. It's also noteworthy that to date only one other program operating in the state of Texas has earned this recognition. So we are very pleased to report that to you this morning and I have the staff flanking me here who actually do the work with the families in the community and so we wanted to ensure that the court received this recognition. Thank you.
>> good job.
>> thanks to all of you all. Any comments this morning from anybody?
>> yes, on behalf of the office of children's services we wanted to thank you for your support, eight years of support that have allowed the healthy families team to make such a difference in the lives of families and children in strengthening the parent-child interaction and helping children grow and develop healthy and prevent child abuse, thank you very much for your support.
>> I have seen you all in action, you all do a very good job, thank you.
>> thank you.
>> talk about a program that's gotten meaningful performance measures, what you bring forward in terms of immunization, these are real things that are the kinds of things that people are looking for when you talk about this kind of investment, job well done.
>> thank you.
>> we would also like to acknowledge some staff who are not with us anymore, but whose leadership was critical during this credentialing process, that is our former executive manager, steven williams, the former director of the office of children's services, laura atkins.
>> keep up the good work, we're proud of you.
>> thank you.
