We have another farewell resolution under item number 3 to approve a resolution recognizing annie faye stewart on her retirement from Travis County court extension after 34 years of service to Travis County. Good morning.
>> good morning.
>> good morning.
>> I would be very pleased to read the resolution. Whereas for 34 years annie faye stewart has served limited resource families in Travis County as a nutrition education assistant; and whereas ms. Stewart helped develop one of the most active and innovative expanded nutrition tphupbts the state of Texas that reaches over 6,000 families and youth with food and nutrition education annually with an estimated $3.7 million savings in health care costs and $750,000 estimated food cost savings in Travis County. And whereas annie partnered with numerous Travis County organizations such as w.i.c., Austin housing authority, aisd, Austin parks and recreation department, the Travis County health and human services division, Austin community college, salvation army, Travis County detention center, Texas school for the deaf, mhmr, the american heart association, and the american diabetes association to deliver services through the expanded nutrition program. And whereas ms. Stewart has exemplified the mission of the expanded nutrition program and has been called upon by the Texas cooperative extension administration to assist with the training of new employees. Now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis County Commissioners court do hereby extend special thanks to annie faye stewart for her years of dedicated service and for the impact she has had on the lives of countless Travis County families, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors.
>> second. [applause]
>> I would like to say a few words and perhaps annie would too. I'm deborah wright. I am currently, supposedly annie's supervisor. She lets me think that I am. Annie has been just a dream employee and not only has she trained assistants over the years, she's helped train a few agents too. The expanded nutrition program started out as a six-month pilot program 35 years ago. And it has evolved into one of the most successful nutrition education programs in the country and that's due in part to annie and others like her in Travis County. Travis County is the [inaudible] annie stewart and other extension expanded nutrition employees built and we will mister terribly and, annie, it's not too late to change your mind. [laughter]
>> I just want to thank ms. Wright f remarks and I just want to thank the Travis County com recognizing.
>> thank you very much for your service for the constituents of Travis County and I think that this is admirable to have these kinds of partnerships as an employee, which I think all of us are probably -- should be doing. You are a terrific model for us to go out and partner with the community organizations so we can help more people. Because after all, that is what we're here for. Thank you very much.
>> Commissioner Sonleitner wants to know if you are [inaudible]. She may consider having you down here more often.
>> certainly the wellness message in terms of the [inaudible].
>> we would also like to have a photograph with the court before we leave. But thank you very much, and I did leave for you our latest results from 2004. Currently, just so you know, the rest of the staff is involved with a pilot program with baylor college of medicine in houston. We're developing a new curriculum that will address the obesity issue and will be beginning teaching that curriculum this spring. So we'll have more on that later.
>> thank you.
>> annie, since you are an expert in nutrition, could you tell me, is there anything other than a brussel sprout that I could eat that would be good for me? People tell me you just don't doctor them up enough or you really would like them. Are there any secrets you can give me because I have done everything to a brussel sprout that you can do and I just can't stand them. But from somebody with your expertise, what should I do?
>> well, you have a variety to choose from from your vegetables. If you don't like brussell sprouts, you can eat some other type of vegetable. [laughter] [applause]
>> I hope my mother is hearing that. [laughter]
>> all in favor? That passes by unanimous vote. And we still have time for a photo opportunity.
>> we also have a plaque for annie, but she will be receiving that tomorrow at another event.
>> [applause]
