Item number 2 is to approve a resolution recognizing elbert d. Walker on his retirement from the Travis County facilities management department after 30 years of service to Travis County. Good morning.
>> good morning.
>> good morning.
>> are you going to walk us through this?
>> yes, I am. Good morning, Commissioners. It is indeed a pleasure for me to present to you elbert walker who has given the county over 30 years of public service. But I just want to go over a few things that he's done for us. Elbert was originally hired as a night shift custodian. After about one year he was promoted to custodial supervisor with a crew of approximately 10 custodians providing cleaning services for the county facilities. After two years in this position, he was promoted into a building maintenance position where he spent 17 years of service as one of our building maintenance technicians, as we now refer to him. And about the last 10 years, elbert has been the building security supervisor for Travis County. And let me just hit a few highlights on some of the things that elbert was involved in. Elbert was involved in helping to get channel 17 -- channel 17 t.v. Up and running. He did public service announcements and operated the cameras for some of the early court sessions, which was great. In his role with building security, elbert was instrumental in advocating for and installing the closed circuit t.v. Systems for the downtown campus which we have now, and elbert was also instrumental in getting the same type of systems set up at precinct 2 office on burnet road, our new tax office and county clerks at airport boulevard. Elbert was also a driving force in moving the county to adopt a common master key for all our buildings which saved us a lot of money. And it certainly assisted us in rekeying our buildings with great ease. Elbert managed several service contracts including inspection, repair, fire alarm and fire suppression systems and fire security monitoring service. In his last two years, elbert served as a project manager for us in helping with one of the major campus system projects at del valle correctional facility. And just summarizing, elbert is much too young to retire. As a matter of fact, he's still just a baby. And what he's done now, he has left us and started a second career with the contractor providing staffing at the smart facility near del valle correctional complex. And of course elbert's hobbies include cycling, home renovation, camping and fishing, all those things that I like. So I present to you elbert walker who I know we're going to miss and he's really done a lot of things and I think he's a good example if you apply yourself you can move right on up the chain and really do some great things. And I often tell elbert that, so I'm proud to present him to you. [applause]
>> and we have a much more flourry way of member monthly ializing. If you don't mind I will read the resolution. Whereas service, dedication and leadership should always be recognized and whereas elbert d. Walker has spent the last 30 years in service to residents of Travis County through his performance in responsible positions within the facilities management department. And whereas he ultimately served as building security supervisor responsible for supervising the security section of the facilities management department for the last 10 years. And whereas he previously served as a building maintenance worker, custodial supervisor and custodian while employed by Travis County. And whereas he has demonstrated his commitment to service, his dedication to his duties and leadership through his willingness to assume these responsibilities, and whereas his efforts have resulted in the significant improvements to the physical security of the buildings for employees and the public using these facilities, and whereas elbert has decided to retire from county service. Be it resolved the Travis County Commissioners court of the state of Texas great fully recognizes the conclusions of elbert d. Walker to the citizens and employees of Travis County and wish him happiness and continuing good health as he enters his well-earned retirement.
>> second. [applause]
>> multiple moved and seconded. Elbert, for you to say anything you would like, and lloyd, if there is anybody else in terms of co-workers, et cetera, that would like to give comments to the court.
>> hello. Good morning, Commissioners court. And the county judge, which I don't see present today. I hope he's listening because mr. Biscoe has always been a great friend of mine. I would just like to thank Travis County for the opportunity of being where aim at today. I feel like I was raised by the population of Travis County, county employees that I shared my years with. When I started here, I started working around the older generation of county employees, which I feel like contributed to a lot of good decision-making for me. So I feel like a child of Travis County, basically. But I have enjoyed the years working here with Travis County. And I'm going to miss everyone. So I appreciate the -- this dedication here.
>> thank you.
>> thank you. [applause]
>> [inaudible] all those things you mentioned to do, you really want to go on a serious fishing trip, don't you? [laughter]
>> there's a plaque that we also would like to present along with the resolution today. So i'll have elbert come forward and we'll make presentation or would you make it for me?
>> I think we would be honored for all of us to give us. Let's vote on the resolution. All those in favor? That passes by unanimous vote.
>> and thank you so much.
