Citizens Communication
Next is citizens communication to give residents an opportunity to address Commissioners court for any matter not on the agenda up to a full three minutes. One citizen signed in, jimmy castro.
>> thank you, judge, good morning, judge Biscoe, commissions and staff. My name is jimmy castro, I do have slides to show you this morning. Here to speak on my own behalf. This first slide shows during the 2005 legislative session there will be a push to secure funding for bio technology center with a necessarily school at its found -- with a medical school at its foundation in the Austin area. The legislators may seek between 100 million to 200 million in initial funding. A medical school in the Austin area could create 50,000 jobs in less than a decade. The formation of central Texas institute for research and education and medicine and bio technology was recently announced by the university of Texas. The group comprises of the central Texas veterans health care network, the greater Austin chamber of commerce, st. David's health care partnership, seton health care network, u.t.'s Austin campus, u.t. Health science center in houston and the u.t. Medical branch at galveston. The institute plans to develop joint medical and doctoral degree programs between utmb and the Austin campus and utmb and u.t. School of public health. The group also will focus on developing the region's health care workforce. The institute' efforts will draw clinical scholars, medical students and medical residents according to the university of Texas. The lack of a medical school and only one teaching hospital is certainly a detriment to growing the bio technology sector in Austin. According to the greater Austin chamber of commerce report. To meet the demands of a continually growing population, seton projects that central Texas will need more than 600 new positions over the next five years. 7 area hospitals demand for doctors of all types are growing, some areas of demand already surel paso supply. Especially when it comes to highly specialized emergency room surgeons. Bringing more medical students and young doctors to Austin is good for all of Austin's health care providers and patients. Thank you, judge and commissions.
>> thank you, mr. Castro and also thank for you the attachments. Would anyone else like to give testimony during the citizens communication, part of today's agenda?
