Travis County Commissioners Court
December 14, 2004
Item 18
18 is to receive briefing on upcoming bond rating trip. This trip has not
been approved by the court this year, but we always make it. What I gave this
morning is a summary of the highlights we plan to cover. Each year we have
highlights similar to those that we share with the bond rating agencies, answer
whatever questions they have. Sometimes they have other issues that they want
to discuss. What we try to do is anticipate topics of interest. We assume
that they have been reading and watching news coverage here, and most of the
time you can sort of tell what they're interested asking us about. In addition,
there's financial accounting information that our financial advisor and auditor,
budget office provide. Butite ronnie is that they -- but the irony is that
we spend as much time on those topics and we do the figures. I do think the
questions give us some idea of issues that we plan to discuss with them. I
do have -- can provide copy of the itinerary if you need it.
>> I seem to remember some of the issues that are covered.
>> on the financial statements, we'll have it complete --
it's always being prepared right to the last minute, but fy '04 came in very
strong. The actual fund balance came in at about three and a half million
higher than we estimated. That was good news. The other piece of good news
is paid off more debt than we issued in '04. We had some strong surpluses
in risk management and self-insurance fund, so I think that the statements
really reflect a strong financial management on y'all's part. That's sort
of the nutshell. There's more detail, but that's the picture we'll be presenting
with the statements when we go up there.
>> okay. Thank you.
