Citizens Communication

Citizens communication is first. Nobody had signed in a few minutes ago. Would anyone like to address the Commissioners court on any matter not on the agenda for up to a full three minutes? If so, please come forward.
>> judge, I actually have an announcement to make and unfortunately it's a sad announcement. If you all saw the paper this morning about the young man up in Pflugerville who was killed over in iraq, that is the son of phil norwood who works at the Texas association of counties. This government has worked very closely with bill when we were part of the health insurance program so I know we would all want to strepbd our prayers and best wishes for that family that's going through a very difficult time. Thank you.
>> thank you very much. And for county employees who are watching this session, combined charities will be extended another week or two. Some of you insist on being the last to contribute. We will respect that desire. And let's just say another week and try to get as much in this week. Last year we raised about $120,000. Our banner year was 2001. We raised about 150,000. Our goal this year is the banner year. That 150,000 we raised in 2001. And many of you should have received an e-mail from the county judge yesterday that was intended to inspire you, not to tick you off. [laughter] but give or pledge immediately.
>> now, the consent items are next.
>> we do have one for citizens communication. This is not the city council, jennifer gale. We start 12 minutes late here at the county.
>> and I do appreciate that, judge Biscoe. Commissioners Gomez, Daugherty, Sonleitner, Davis. I知 still interested in our setting aside the election results of the last light rail vote we had.
>> the commuter rail?
>> right. The urban commuter rail that was on November 2nd. But I don't believe the people were fully informed. I知 going door to door -- I知 sorry, I知 talking to people as I知 collecting signatures for my run for city council, place 4. And people are telling me that they don't understand the light rail is not going to the university of Texas or capitol complex or hyde park. I don't think they've been fully informed as to where the light rail is going to go. You know, I enjoyed those commercials, that pleasant-sounding woman that came on and let us know about what was going on with the light rail. And explained what was -- describing it to us. There's a law that I got from west law that it's 556.004 of the government code. 556.004. And under c it states, "a state officer or employee may not use official authority or influence or permit the use of a program administered by the state agency of which the person is an officer or employee to interfere or affect the result of an election: or nomination of a candidate or to achieve any political purpose." And I believe that the state agency with the representative on this Commissioners court used their influence for political purpose of instituting light rail called commuter -- urban commuter light rail. And I知 asking for the Travis County Commissioners court to make a lawsuit asking them to set aside this election until February or may, the next possible election date. So the people can be fully informed. Without the -- well, the support of the state agency, capital metropolitan transportation authority. So if you would do that for the people. I知 also against any kind of gambling in Travis County. I'd like to thank you all for allowing jennifer gale to speak before this Commissioners court.
>> thank you.
>> thank you, jennifer.
>> anybody else for citizens communication, whether you signed in or not?
