Travis County Commissioners Court
October 5, 2004
Item 4
4. Approve proclamation recognizing October 2004 as "austin partners in education
month" in Travis County. And should I read the proclamation?
>> that would be nice.
>> it reads: whereas Austin partners in education, a non-profit
501 c 3 between the Austin greater chamber of commerce, Austin community,
successfully improved education since 1983,, not quite as old as I thought,
whereas the program began with only 12 adopters and has now grown to have
other 2332 partnerships, over 2590 mentors and 17,750 volunteers who are involved
in all aisd schools. Whereas their hard work and commitment to education have
provided more than $103,385,003. Next time can we get any sense that maybe
-- [laughter] -- in donations of time, goods and services to aisd since the
program's inception in 1983, and whereas this highly successful program, which
has touched countless thousands of lives, over its history, and has been recognized
nationally as a model for partnerships between public education and business,
and is one of the most outstanding examples of volunteerism in the nation,
now therefore be it resolved that the Travis County Commissioners court proper
claims the month of October, 2004, as Austin partners in education month and
commend the thousands of partners and their -- for their efforts to provide
the highest quality of education for all Austin children and youth and I move
approval.
