Travis County Commissioners Court
September 28, 2004
Citizens Communication
Citizens communication is next. And one citizen has signed in and that is
pam laurie. This is to give residents an opportunity to address the Commissioners
court for up to a full three minutes on any item not on the agenda. Ms. Laurie,
if you would have a seat there, get real comfortable, we would be happy to
get your comments.
>> thank you, good phorpl. Aoeuplg a manager for the hunger
relief programs for the Texas association of community action agencies. One
of the programs that we administer is called the hunters for the hungry, it's
a wild game donation program. During 2003 and 2004, thanks to the support
of agencies and municipalities such as Travis County and the individual hunters
in Texas, almost 127,000 pounds of meat were donated and used to help feed
texans in need. I want to take the opportunity today to thank the Travis County
Commissioners court and Travis County parks and natural resources division
for their support throughout the years. Travis County has generously donated
convenient nissan harvested in areas where management is needed. Rather than
let the deer grow weak or starve we have a mutually beneficial system of not
only helping to manage the deer herd but to use the meat to help feed Travis
County residents in need. Last year through caritas of Austin, almost 12,000
servings of meat were provided by Travis County. So I'm here today on behalf
of the hunters for the hungry program, caritas of Austin, and the people of
Travis County to present you with a plaque in appreciation of your support
over the years.ņi and I'm not sure who gets it.
>> give it to Commissioner Davis. He touch it and pass it
on down.
>> thank y'all.
>> thank you.
>> thank you very much. This is a good program and we're
able to get this meat processed at no cost to Travis County, our backup says.
So it's a win-win for everybody. .
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
>> thank you.
>> thanks, pam.
>> you have to take this weather you like it or not. [laughter]
>> at least take it and pass it on down. Anybody else for
citizens communication, that's to address the court on any matter not on the
agenda.
