Travis County Commissioners Court
September 14, 2004
Item 6
Number 6 is to approve proclamation recognizing September as the Austin/Travis
County mental health mental retardation center's destination dignity month.
And the proclamation reads -- I guess I should read it -- whereas the local
community mental health and mental retardation centers help 200,000 texans
with mental retardation and various mental health conditions to lead productive
lives, whereas annually the Texas council of mhmr centers incorporated highlights
the work of Texas community mhmr centers and sponsors destination dignity
through community awareness and celebrate -- (indiscernible). Whereas the
39 centers across the state provide community care actions for persons with
mental illness and mental retardation as well as persons working to overcome
alcohol and drug abuse. And the Austin Travis County mhmr center will celebrate
destination dignity day during the month of September to highlight the programs
of the center that serves over 10,000 individuals and families in Austin and
Travis County at 54 facilities, and whereas we are pleased to recognize the
Austin Travis County mhmr's campaign to promote community acceptance and a
rewarding quality of life for texans with mental illness, developmental disabilities
and substance abuse issues. Now therefore be it resolved that we the Travis
County Commissioners court here by proclaim the month of September 2004 as
destination dignity month in Travis County, and encourage all residents to
support the purpose and ideals it represents. I move approval.
